  3. Green Retrofits - BCSEA • Energy retrofits to multi-unit residential buildings • Working with BC Hydro, FortisBC, City of Vancouver, VanCity, landlords, strata concils • First 15 condo projects to include solar hot water installations

  4. Community Energy and Emissions Plans • Include: • Transportation/land use • Buildings • Waste • Local energy supply • Long-term outlook (10-50 years)

  5. Solar Colwood • Objective to install solar HW and PV • Initially rejected for funding • After CEEP and further planning achieved $3.9 million in federal funding • Now focused on solar HW, with some PV, ductless heat pumps, electric car charging stations, smart grid technology

  6. GVHA Renewable Energy Study • Assessment of a broad range of renewable energy technologies • Potential feasibility • Cost/benefit • Intended to inform development of a mater plan for Ogden Point • Solar HW: difficult to get reliable information • Solar PV: importance of future-readiness

  7. Moving Forward With Solar • Tremendous excitement for solar • Need for clarity on costs/benefits – especially for solar hot water • Limits of “payback period” as a measurement • Importance of “future-ready” considerations in planning
