E-Commerce By Jason Logan
E-commerce • Definition Electronic Commerce. Refers to the general exchange of goods and services via the Internet.
Advantages of E-commerce • It is a lot more convenient for the user to shop online it saves time and money. • The user no longer has to leave his home to go shopping and waste money on petrol and parking.
Advantages of E-commerce • The shopping will then be delivered saving the effort of transporting goods • Less time would be wasted going shopping so there would be more time to do more important things.
Advantages of E-commerce • The prices on the internet are often cheaper than the prices on the high street.
Disadvantages • Online shopping accounts can be hacked into and important details stolen. • Because shopping online is cheaper and more convenient than going to the high street there has been a decline in high street shopping sales.
Disadvantages • Because shopping and trading online is so easy it can become addictive and people can waste valuable amounts of time looking for a product at the write price. • An example is eBay an online auction where people can trade items http://pages.ebay.com/education/whatisebay/
Disadvantages • Because of Online auction sites there no longer is a need for auctions or pawnshops/brokers. Because online there is a wider market to sell you product to and eBay take a smaller amount of commission than an auction or pawnbrokers. Meaning more people are likely to buy and sell items online.
eBay is addictive because • Easy to get on. • Easy to use. • Nearly anything you want at the touch of your finger tips. For example
Why is this a bad thing Everyone's got loads of debt! Other shops are going out of business Wasting time on browsing eBay when they could be spending time with friends and family.
Concerns about Hacking Khyle Westmoreland
Data Security • Many people are often concerned about the security of their data when left on a computer connected to the Internet. • As the Internet provides a way for everybody connected to contact everybody else connected, it provides many security holes.
Hackers • Most Internet users know about the possibilities of hackers accessing their systems and taking all their data. • The media portray lots of stories about private data being stolen by these hackers and being able to access places like NASA, etc…
Effect on Society • Due to the fact the Internet is rather insecure, added with all the media hype, there is often a lot of concern from society about why anybody would trust private data with and the Internet. • However, due to all the hype, there is a lot more concern than is probably necessary.
Becoming Secure • Despite all the hype, it is often quite simple to protect yourself from hackers. • If you’re unfortunate enough to be using software made by a company who doesn’t really care that much about you (more about your cash…), ensure you download all patches and security updates from the vendor’s website (everyone knows it’s a pain and that the aforementioned company should consider this BEFORE releasing their stupid software…).
Staying Secure • Make sure you install Anti-Virus and anti-spyware software which will check your computer for worms and spyware. Always keep these up-to-date. • Download and install a browser and an email client which aren’t so liable to exploits (www.mozilla.org).
Final Thoughts • Take the time to become secure • Ditch Micro$oft • Go Open Source • Learn about the world • Don’t use Hotmail • …Or GMail • Exist
The End (I suppose I should take this opportunity to apologise to the people in this room who are daft enough to actually *like* Micro$hit…soft. Although really, I don’t see why I should – they’ve done more damage to the computer industry than… well, there isn’t anyone else, really, is there? But still. Accept my apology. Then look at how many gigabytes you need to download from Windows Update today. Then go Open Source )
PORN And other censorship You must be 18 to enter this site. Click enter if you are over 18. If you aren't exit this site now.
Porn is not the only thing ever censored • Text is censored in certain occasions when the information is sensitive and should not be known to certain people. • Also peoples names in Court cases are usually Censored, to protect them
PORN Porn is censored. Well supposed to be, to anyone under the age of 18. The government thinks if anyone under 18 sees it they will, get mentally Damaged.
Film Films have a age rating and people under that age can not (should not) be able to see that movie, for it might cause some physiological damage.
People now work from home Where people before worked at and office, they can now work from home because of the internet, they can still be in contact with all the people they were before.
Problems with people doing this It is easier for them, they don’t need to stay in traffic for hours to get to the office, but its bad for their health, just sitting there getting even less exercise than they were before.
