NEED TO KNOW Textbook Care Your Library Records
WHO’S RESPONSIBLE? • For lost or stolen books • For damaged covers and pages • For items checked out to each student
IDENTIFICATION • Each book has a unique barcode number. • At check-out, that barcode number is added to your Library Record. • Write your name inside the front cover of each textbook. There’s a special place just for that.
COVERS ARE IMPORTANT • Brown paper bags work the best. • They are free from the grocery store! • Write you name on the outside. • Don’t tape covers to the book itself.
BOOK SOCKS CANCAUSE PROBLEMS • Often bend or break corners and spines. • It is difficult to find ones big enough. • Be careful of advertising that suggests “jumbo” will fit any book. • If the book sock is difficult to put on, the size is probably too small.
DON’T PAY FOR WHATYOU DIDN’T DO • September is the month to tell us about any problem with the condition of your textbooks. • See any damage notes that may be written inside the front cover. • We want to know about problems that are not already noted.
FULL REPLACEMENT COSTS • Lost or stolen book • Unusable book (i.e. liquid damage, mold, excessive writing, doggy chew marks) • (Be aware that some textbooks cost over $80!)
DAMAGES UP TO $15 • Bent corners • Broken spine • Cleaning • Missing or damaged barcode • Staining • Tape on book • Torn pages • Writing

BE INFORMED • 24/7 access to the Library Catalog. • See all textbooks and library books you have checked out with their barcode numbers. • See when they are due back. • Textbook information is on the library home page.
TELL US • Check your library record in the Library Catalog. • If something doesn’t look right (for example, the barcode on the book you have does not match what is on your library record), tell us!
