RTD call 2005: eInclusion (SO 2.5.11) - Objectives • To mainstream accessibility in consumer goods and services, to ensure: • equal access • independent living • participation for all in the Information Society • To develop next generation assistive systems to allow people with disabilities and aging citizens to: • play a full role in society • increase their autonomy • realize their potential.

  4. Instruments (1/4) Integrated projects (IP) • Experience and application research leading to large scale demonstrators, particularly in the areas of: • Smart environment • Next generation mobiles • Digital TV • Future related services. • Possible focus of demonstration scenarios: • Living environments for older persons • Educational environments for children • Work environments for people with disabilities.

  5. Instruments (2/4) Specific targeted research projects(STREP) • Development of innovative solutions for persons with cognitive disabilities, including the demographic changes. • Possible applications: • Support to the ageing population • Support to children in developing their potential and learning new skills.

  6. Instruments (3/4) Coordination actions (CA) • Federating the fragmented assistive technology industry (SMEs) • Achieving an understanding of market requirements and cost benefit issues • Design for All and assistive technology: structuring the cooperation among centres for accessibility resource and support.

  7. Instruments (4/4) Specific support actions (SSA) • Development and constitution of adequate technology platforms to meet the challenges of the ageing population • Suggested participation: • Relevant mainstream industries • Assistive technology industry • User communities.

  8. Tips for success (from past experience) • Discuss the relationship of the proposed R&D / technical work with the state-of-the-art • Some parts of the proposal need to be given proper attention: • Appropriate in-depth user involvement • Project Management (structures; conflict resolution; IPR...) • Relevant industry involvement / industrial take-up of results

  10. eInclusion Projects in FP6 (2) => COVERAGE BY ON-GOING PROJETCS Work Programme • Research on advanced interfaces, low cost sensors and possibly robotics to be integrated in assistive devices; information modelling and web semantics to improve web usability for digitally disadvantaged persons. • Development and demonstration of intelligent housing for persons with special needs to be addressed in an integrated approach. • Networking of research teams, in the domain of assistive technologies and the domain of design-for-all • Socio-economic, regulatory and policy dimensions to ensure availability of information society services for all at a reasonable cost, will also be addressed.
