  1. Personification and Hyperbole I can identify examples of personification and hyperboles and determine their meaning.

  2. Personification • Gives human characteristics to objects, ideas, or other inanimate objects.

  3. Personification • Examples: • The moon danced upon the ocean as if on a spotlighted stage. • The tired old shoe felt lonesome and dejected in the back of the closet. • The cell phone alarm screamed and hollered at me until I finally rolled out of bed.

  4. Hyperbole • An extreme exaggeration. • It is used for effect and not meant to be taken literally. • It gives the reader an instant picture.

  5. Hyperbole • Examples: • I was so hungry I could eat a horse. • She was as tall as a giraffe. • I have already said that a million times. • I have heard that story a thousand times.
