  1. INTERN OVERVIEW For Daegu University

Policies and Rules (simple) • Session last 24 weeks: two session per year- • Winter session starts in Sep/Oct and runs to Feb. • Summer session starts Mar and goes to Aug. • Students receive 18 credit hours • Interns review what organizations are looking for to match interest/goal and apply to your university. • Your university will schedule time for interviews, ACS and university will conduct interview. This process has to be completed 6 weeks prior to start date to process back ground checks and have ready to receive gate pass.

The week prior to start date University will ensure all students are at Camp Henry, to have pictures taken and receive ID to enter post. • Dress code is in place- business casual- no jeans- EXCEPT a few organizations. • Interns are responsible for transportation to and from post. • Interns are responsible to provide their lunch. • NOT A PLACE TO LEARN ENGLISH- ONLY- • YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH- ORALLY, WRITTEN AND READING

  4. ACS (Army Community Service) • POSITION TITLE: FAP Assistant • OBJECTIVE: To assist FAP Parent Educator and EFMP) with the daily duties. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Assist FAP in maintaining the FAP resource library. • Assist FAP program manager in marketing programs. • Assist with program and event preparation (Dads 101, Playgroup, OB Orientation, Parenting Skills Building Classes, Child and Domestic Abuse community-wide prevention campaigns. • Assist in organizing administrative files. • Perform various clerical functions (typing, binding, filing…). • Create and compose specific graphics and presentations for programs and events (educational workshops related to parenting skills building) • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Proficient in the use of Excel and PowerPoint. Customer service abilities. Social Service background. • HOURS: Monday – Friday- 0800-1900

ACS- Administrative • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Volunteer Coordinator with the daily duties and to support other duties in ACS when not performing duties for AVC. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Assist in keeping volunteer records and collecting accurate volunteer hours, input data into volunteer database. • Work with AVC on organizing volunteer activities- such as volunteer recognition • Work with Relocation Program to support Spouse Orientation tour. • Assist with lending closet services • Assist customer services, ability to talk directly with customers, handle telephone inquiries regarding services of ACS. • Making the welcome packet. • Perform other duties as requested. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities. • HOURS: Monday-Friday- 0800-1900

ACS- Event Planning • Objective: Work with information and referral, AFTB/AFAP and AVC with event planning of ACS programs. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Marketing of materials- flyers, banner etc • Take pictures of events • Compile article for internet between post and university to see activities going on • Attend any ACS functions, will have escort privilege • QUALIFICATIONS: • Computer skills a must- power point, publisher • Outgoing, as will be meeting people • Creative, ability to work alone • HOURS: Monday-Saturday- 0700-2000

  7. AFNK(Armed Forces Network Korea) • POSITION TITLE: Student Intern for AFNK • OBJECTIVE: To assist in the daily broadcast missions at AFNK Daegu Detachment. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Produce Television Spots (commercials) • Produce Television/Radio News Stories • Assist in Production of the AFNK Nightly Newscast • Perform other duties as needed • TIME REQUIRED: Full time position, Monday thru Friday from 0900-1700 hrs. Assignments may require intern to work Saturdays and Sundays. • QUALIFICATIONS: Required proficient English and Korean language skills, both orally and writing.

  8. CYS2(Child Youth Service) • POSITION TITLE: MS/T Intern • OBJECTIVE: To assist the staff with the daily scheduled activities and duties as well as to support and assist youth. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Provide bullets of duties to aid us in the selection of intern for your organizational needs. • Supporting administrative work • Promoting MS/T program by providing appropriate information to parents & youth. • Helping staff in areas such as programming, performing, and marketing. • Generating & reporting data files • Helping prepare daily snack with youth volunteers • Supporting outdoor activities & field trips. • Providing information about the local community for outreach purposes. • Interacting with youth • Needs excellent English skills • Enjoy working with youth • TIME REQUIRED: 5 days per week from 1000-1900 hrs – Mondays- Saturdays (unless on CYS Training Days where hours will be 0800-1700) • QUALIFICATIONS: • Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language - reading, oral, and written. Computer knowledge. Customer Service skills.

  9. SAS (School Age Service) • POSITION TITLE: Child and Youth Assistant Intern • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Child & Youth Program Assistants (CYPA) with the daily duties and to support other duties as needed. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Assist the CYPAs with setting up and executing activities with children ages 5-11 years old • Helping with art projects and assisting with indoor and outdoor games with children ages 5-11 years old • Reading to or with children ages 5-11 years old • Some light administrative work such as photocopying and filing • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0900 to 1800 hrs.) One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities.

  10. CLEOS (Child & Youth Liaison Ed. Outreach Service) • POSITION TITLE: CLEOS (Child & Youth Liaison Education Outreach Ser.) Assistant • OBJECTIVE: To assist the CLEOS Director with Central Enrollment Registry, Liaison and Education (Daegu American School & Family) and Outreach Services (SKIES, FRG Meetings, Parent’s Night Out, Parent Advisory Council, Community Events, etc.) • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Assists CYS2 Central Enrollment Registry • Customer Service • Resource & Referral • Reviews CYS2 enrollment forms for completion and accuracy. • Filing • Liaison & Education • Assist with special events and partnerships with Daegu American school. • Outreach Services • Assists with planning, coordinating and implementing community or Child, Youth & School Services special events. • Works with SKIES Director (Instructional Classes) • Supports and assists other Child, Youth & School Services programs as needed. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Excellent Customer service skills and abilities. Ability to work well with others. Knowledge of or experience in planning and coordinating special events is helpful.

DAS (Daegu American School) • Position Title: Education Assistant • Duties: • Assist the classroom teacher with daily duties • Help teacher supervise and instruct students • Help teacher plan lessons and prepare for daily objectives • Qualifications: Prefer a good command of both English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Good with people. • Time Required: Full time M-F 0800-1700

DPW (Directorate of Public Works) • POSITION TITLE: Engineer • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Engineering Design Branch as a project designer. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Provide bullets of duties to aid us in the selection of intern for your organizational needs. • Engineering student (Environmental, Mechanical, Architectural or General) • Will learn MicroStation Computer Aided Drawing program • Will be a member of a design team working projects worth millions of dollars • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1700 hrs.) One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities.

  13. DPW (Directorate of Public Works) • POSITION TITLE: Biologist or Environmental Engineer • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Environmental Division as a Biologist or Forester. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Provide bullets of duties to aid us in the selection of intern for your organizational needs. • Will work with a Professional Biologist contracted from the US to develop a wetland and urban forestry plan. • Will be required to work ½ time out doors and ½ time in the office. • Will learn wetland management skills. • Will work projects developing an urban forestry plan and other environmental tasks. • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1700 hrs.) One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. (If they will be working different hours- need to list those. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge.   14. DPW (Directorate of Public Works) • POSITION TITLE: Engineer • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Business Operations Integration Division as a Work Order Clerk. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Provide bullets of duties to aid us in the selection of intern for your organizational needs. • Business, English, or Engineering student interested in a customer relations position. • Will be required to converse with customers on a daily basis helping record. trouble tickets for the Camp Carroll Work Order Desk. • Will learn US business practices. • Duty hours will be dependent on the CP Walker to CP Carroll bus. Official duty day will start once the intern boards the 0800 bus to CP Carroll. Intern duty day will end at 1630 hrs and can board the next available bus to CP Walker. • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1700 hrs.) One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks.   15. SJA (Staff Judge Advocate) • POSITION TITLE: Staff Judge Advocate Intern • OBJECTIVE: To assist the 19th ESC, ACofS, OSJA with the daily duties and to support other duties as directed by the supervisor. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Assists with a variety of legal work involved in providing of assistance in the research, collection and interpretation of both Korean and US Federal laws, administrative decrees and the US/ROK Status of Force Agreement. • Assist the office of the Staff Judge Advocate (OSJA) with the analysis of legal decisions, opinions, rulings and other legal material. • Attend legal proceedings in Korean civilian court as an observer for the OSJA to evaluate the fairness of Korean court proceedings. • Provides support to maintenance of legal reference files and researches information using legal database. • Research laws, regulations, and policies. • Provide support as a liaison between US and ROK government. • Assist legal decision making process • Organize meetings between the OSJA staff and the Korean legal community. • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1700 hrs.) Occasionally, work may extend through 1800hrs. One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. • QUALIFICATIONS: Major in Law • Good command of English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge.   16. PAO (Public Affair Office) 19th • POSITION TITLE: Public Affairs Intern • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Public Affairs office with the daily duties and to support other duties as assigned. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • The Intern will be actively engaged in various aspects of 19th ESC Public Affairs Operations, to include: • a. Command Information • b. Public Information • Command Information and Public Information • a. Command Information – Team 19th Newsletter • Assist and execute with writing articles, taking photos, interviews with ROK, and coordination of Public Affairs office CI team for articles that involve ROK guest invited functions. • Public Information • Performs translating and interpreting work from English into Korean and vice versa, in either official or semiofficial documents and newspapers where mainly non-technical subjects are discussed. • Orally translates such non-technical subjects as local governmental affairs, education, living conditions, subjects that are discussed in newspapers, magazines, current topics of conversations and other matters not involving specialized technical vocabularies. • Assist additional PAO and PAO Staff's mission for community and media events, tours and PAO Staff mission site visits HQ/19th ESC area of operations in Daegu. • Assist with CI team shared folder management Assist Public Information Officer with translation of news article from Local Korean Newspaper. • Assist MRO with monitoring of the local Korean press and maintaining clippings of local Korean and US Newspapers for supervisor’s review and official files. • Interns should clearly understand the sensitivity of some information in PAO section. • Perform other Public Affairs related duties assigned by the 19th ESC.

  17. PAO (Public Affair Office) 19th cont. • TIME REQUIRED: Public Affairs Office hours are Monday through Friday from 0900 to 1700; with two 15 minute breaks. It is closed on U.S. and Korean holidays for student Interns. Work hours may occasionally extend beyond normal duty hours to include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. The Interns are allowed one hour for lunch (normally from 1200 to 1300). Extended official lunches, which combine lunch with legitimate public affairs mission, are permissible with the supervisor’s prior approval. Mission may cause flexible lunches before 1200 or after 1300 are also permissible with the supervisor’s prior approval. Anticipated absences from the office should be reported to the supervisor 72 hours prior. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities.

  18. Automation Information System Support G6 • OBJECTIVE: To assist the G-6 section with the daily duties and to support other duties as Administrative assistance / Helpdesk Specialist. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Supplies administrative support services to the G6 IT section. Assembles and analyzes fairly complex information or data. Describes results in a written report. Uses independent judgment in completing activities and operates under general supervision. Oversees administrative procedures and processes for assigned area. May help with budget preparation and control. May act as a administrative liaison with internal and/or external sources. Enters and verifies a variety of data in appropriate formats. Tracks and verifies quality of data entry from all sources. Resolves problems regarding the data. Typically reports to the section NCOIC. Responds to inquiries and requests for assistance with the organization's computer systems or PC's. Identifies problems, troubleshoots and provides advice to assist users. Coordinates with other IS areas to resolve problems if necessary. Provides assistance in producing the section's compensation program for the civilians. • - Assists Automation Information System Support requirements for 19th ESC • - Performs as an interpreter in support of civilian contractors assisting G6 related missions. • - Assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of all automation information system trouble calls directed by the supervisor. • - Assists G6 with the planning, coordination, and execution of all communication support requirements for Retirement ceremonies and other social functions as directed by the supervisor. • - Update and maintain 19th ESC master phone directory. • TIME REQUIRED: Mon-Fri (0900-1700), Duty hours are often event driven that requires working hours to extend through weekends, before and after duty hours. One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. • QUALIFICATIONS: Computer Information System or Computer Science degree • Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities.

  19. GNP (Good Neighbor Program) • POSITION TITLE: Good Neighbor Program (GNP) Intern – Korean cultural Awareness and Military to Military • SUPERVISOR: • First Line: Mr. Son, SeukHwan YA-02, Community Relations Program Director • Second Line: COL Richard A. Bezold, CofS, 19th ESC • OBJECTIVE: To assist with the daily Good Neighbor program related duties and to support other duties as directed by the supervisor • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • 1. Good Neighbor Program - Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of Good Neighbor Program in the areas of Korean Cultural Awareness and Military to Military. - Seek out local GNP related events (College Fairs (Exchange Program), local orphanage/elders home assistance, soup kitchens, English camps) that would be applicable to the US soldiers, family members and civilians. - Perform as a liaison with local orphanages, elder’s homes, schools, and soup kitchens. - Assist with Good Neighbor Pass application process to include: providing application guidance to ROK Good Neighbors, translation of interview and staffing of the application packets. - Perform as lead escort officer for select events and function for Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members (includes accountability, coordination on site, and transportation management) - Performs translating and interpreting work from English into Korean and vice versa, in official functions such as English Camp, Cultural Tours, Cooking Classes, cultural outreach classes, and Soup Kitchen services. - Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of all GNP related events as directed by the supervisor. - File all applicable GNP Events documents (Read-Ahead, Pass/ID memorandum, Event outline, Event Pamphlet, AAR comments, speech product etc.) - Conduct clerical support and records maintenance for the planning, coordination, execution and assessment of the Command's Good Neighbor program.

  20. GNP part 2 • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0900 to 1700 hrs.) 1 hour lunch and two 15 minutes break. • Position requires additional duty hours as below: • - Extended duty hours past 1700hrs (3-4 times per month). • - Additional duty hours during the weekends as directed by the supervisor. • - Occasional overnight stay at local Gyeongbuk Region – 2-4 times during 6 month period • Due to the extended hours on weekdays and weekends, interns report to duty at 0900hrs. • Additional comp times are granted by the supervisor for extended duty hours performed. • QUALIFICATIONS: Strong sense of responsibility, desire and dedication. Good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Words. Well versed in Korean culture and history. Must be able to work extended duty hours and weekends.

  21. Community Relations (G9) • OBJECTIVE: To assist with the daily Community Relations program related duties and to support other duties as directed by the supervisor • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • 1. Community Relations Program • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of Community Relations Program. • Performs translating and interpreting work from English into Korean and vice versa, in either official or semi-official functions. • Orally translates such non-technical subjects as local governmental affairs, education, living conditions, subjects that are discussed in events and functions. • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of all COMREL related events as directed by the supervisor. • Participate as an escort officer to 19th ESC Command Group to include, CG, CSM, DCO and CofS to various COMREL events and activities hosted by the ROK Local Good neighbor Organizations to include but not limited to NGO Invited events and concerts, Welcome and farewell functions hosted by the ROK organizations, Friendship dinners, socials, and conferences. • Seek out local COMREL related events (Festivals, Entertainment, Sports Events, EXPOs etc) that would be applicable to the US soldiers, family members and civilians • Assist Community Relations Officer with the planning, coordination, and execution of all COMREL related events as directed by the supervisor. • File all applicable COMREL Events documents (Read-Ahead, Pass/ID memorandum, Event outline, Event Pamphlet, AAR comments, speech product etc.) • Perform as lead escort officer for select events and function for Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members (includes accountability, coordination on site, and transportation management) • Interns should clearly understand the sensitivity of some information in G9 section. Information marked as For Official Use Only (FOUO) such as, the events schedule that involves the Command Group, names from the dignitaries invite list must not be openly discussed outside the work area.

  22. Community Relations (G9) 2 • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0900 to 1700 hrs.) 1 hour lunch and two 15 minutes break. • Position requires additional duty hours as below: • - Extended duty hours past 1700hrs (3-4 times per month). • - Additional duty hours during the weekends as directed by the supervisor. • - Occasional overnight stay at local Gyeongbuk Region – 2-4 times during 6 month period • Due to the extended hours on weekdays and weekends, interns report to duty at 0900hrs. • Additional comp times are granted by the supervisor for extended duty hours performed. • QUALIFICATIONS: Strong sense of responsibility, desire and dedication.   23. Material Readiness Branch, Equipment • OBJECTIVE: To assist the MWO, SPO with the daily duties and to support other duties as directed by the supervisor. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Perform Modification Word Orders (MWO) Duties: • Assists the 8USA Modification Work Order (MWO) Coordinator in the collection and gathering of required MWO information for all conferences, meetings, or gatherings; • As required, performs translating and interpreting work from English into Korean and vice versa; • Upon notification of an MWO requiring application, assists in capturing owning Major Subordinate Command’s (MSC) information to include: accurate quantities of applicable equipment on-hand, serial numbers, location of equipment, and point of contact to coordinate application of the MWO; • Collaborates with customer units, contractor representatives, item managers, and AMC Logistics Assistance Representatives (LARs) regarding resolution of supply and maintenance problems affecting the MWO process; • Assists in coordinating with appropriate materiel managers to ensure that program requirements are properly identified and in conformance with current regulations, policies, procedures, and logistical concepts; • Assists in ensuring the Modification Management Information System (MMIS) is updated by Eighth United States Army units as new MWOs are applied; • Conducts office support and records maintenance for the execution and assessment of the Eighth United States Army MWO program. This includes ensuring that detailed library of guidelines and references, such as ARs and policies, MACOM policies, 8USA regulations, supplements, and policy letters, safety-of-use messages (SOUM), commercial vehicle safety recall campaign directives, technical publications, manufacturer's catalogs and handbooks, and pamphlets is maintained and up-to-date.

  24. Material Readiness Branch, Equipmentpart 2 • TIME REQUIRED: Mon-Fri (0900-1700), with a one hour lunch break. No duty during weekends or holidays. • QUALIFICATIONS: MS-Office • Good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities.

  25. PAO (IMCOM) • OBJECTIVE: To assist the Public Affairs Officer with the daily duties of the Public Affairs Office as a reporter, and to support other duties as required. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • The PAO Intern works in each of the three functional areas of Public Affairs – Community Relations, Community Information and Public Information. These duties include, but are not limited to: • Performing as a reporter, photographer and writer of PAO news products. • Managing the closed-circuit television Command Channel, using Microsoft PowerPoint. • Read Korean newspapers every morning for articles concerning USAG Daegu, USFK or the U.S. Army, translate them to English and provide a copy to the PAO and Community Relations Officer (CRO). • Assist Community Relations Officer with community relations (COMREL) events. • The intern will support USAG Daegu’s interaction with media representatives as required. • PAO has detailed description of Intern duties. • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1700 hrs.) One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. Night and weekend work as required by assignments. • QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. Computer knowledge. Customer service abilities.

  26. DHR- Directorate Human Resource • POSITION TITLE: Human Resources Associate • OBJECTIVE: To assist the DHR with human resources management for the United States Garrison-Daegu by providing administrative and clerical assistance. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Greet visitors, answer telephone, distribute incoming mail, and deliver correspondence throughout the Garrison. • Prepare memorandums, forms and other types of documents using various computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office products). • Copy, file and shred documents. • Research and gather information using the Internet. • Develop an electronic file system on a shared directory. • Develop an electronic suspense log with calendar reminders. • Create award packages for recipients to include medals/pins. • Coordinate with other Garrison Directorates (e.g., Public Affairs, Safety, Command Group, etc.). • Assist the Director of Human Resources in learning and understanding the Korean culture. • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  27. DHR- cont. • TIME REQUIRED: Full Time, 40 hours/week. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 0800 to 1700 hrs, with one (1) hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks with one before lunch and the other after lunch. • QUALIFICATIONS:Prefer: language proficiency in writing/reading/speaking English and Korean. Technologically savvy with computer software programs (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, etc.). Customer-service focused and possesses superb analytical ability. • SUPERVISOR:Ms. Stephanie Williams, Director of Human Resources (DHR)

  28. SAFETY OFFICE • POSITION TITLE: Administrative Clerk • SUPERVISOR: Philip Vincent, Safety Office Manager • OBJECTIVE:To assist the Safety Office with the daily office duties and to support other duties as directed by safety manager. • DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: • Answer telephone and relay messages • Compile materials into binder and /or database • Track schedules for inspections of staff members • Type correspondence as needed • Maintain a file and resource library • TIME REQUIRED: Full time weekly required. (Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1700 hrs.) One hour lunch break and two – 15 minute breaks. One in morning and one break in afternoon. • QUALIFICATIONS:Prefer a good command of both the English and Korean language, reading, oral and written. High computer knowledge.
