  1. Thoughts For The Holiday Season By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. For those of us who celebrate Christmas, it can be easy to get caught up in the commercialism of the season. We are barraged with ads in all forms, for all kinds of things, and the mentality is that buying more makes one happier.

  2. Thoughts For The Holiday Season By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. Perhaps it comes with age, but for some of us, the focus is different. It is to reflect on what we can give to others, not on what we get. It is to remember that each of us has a civic duty to help ensure that our communities are good places to live our lives, and to raise our families. It is to recall that many others are not so fortunate with their lot in life, and that we have a responsibility to find ways to help them.

  3. Thoughts For The Holiday Season By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. It is to know that, for some, the holidays are a very difficult time because they may be lonely, and without family, during a time of year when family is a big focal point. At a personal level, the holiday season is a time for each of us to recall treasured childhood memories. For myself, those memories bring back wonderful thoughts of my parents, and how we enjoyed so many holiday seasons in a home full of warmth and love. It brings a smile to my face to think about those times in my life, and no doubt others share the same feeling.

  4. Thoughts For The Holiday Season By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. Above all, this is a time of year to stop the mad rush of commercialism, and to take time to reflect on what really matters in this life. Take the time to put a smile on someone’s face, or to make a point of saying “thank you” for the routine things that others do for us each day. Show kindness and caring for others. The rewards will far exceed what it takes from us to do these simple things.
