Shift Happens • The world has changed. • Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdvo5FlRqmM
Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO) • The world is ever changing. • When asked about “The Power of Amazon” that is driving small companies down, Bezos responded, “You’ve got to earn your keep in this world. When a new company starts, if customers come to the party, it’s disruptive to the old way... the Internet is disrupting every industry. People can complain about that, but complaining is not a strategy. Amazon is not happening to book selling, the future is happening to book selling.”
Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO) “Companies have short life spans. Amazon will be disrupted some day... I don’t worry about it because I know it is inevitable. Companies come and go... the companies that are the shiniest and most important of any era, you wait a few decades and they are gone. It will happen to Amazon, but I would love to delay that date until after I am dead.”
Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO) • To keep his company relevant and profitable, Bezos casts strategic long-term vision that keeps Amazon ahead of, or at least in pace with, evolutionary change. • “That long term approach is rare enough that you are not competing amongst very many companies.”
Agenda • Setting the stage (Context) • Why (Purpose) • How (Methods) • What (Results) • Questions
Always Start With Why • If you don’t know (or remember) your organization’s “Why,” it is almost impossible to get the “How” or “What” right. • Why does your church/organization exist? • What is your calling? • What are you divinely assigned to do?
Always Start With Why • Paul understood his “Why” and everything he did aligned with it. • (Gal 1:15, 16 NLT) But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles… • Paul did not have Peter’s assignment (to the Jews), so all his work focused on reaching the Gentiles. • Remember “Why” you started. • You only have gracefor your assignment.
Always Start With Why • Your “What” should be in alignment with your “Why.” • All activity should align with the ministry/organization’s vision, missionand goals. • Activity does not always equal productivity. • The “Why” of the organization must be known and clearly understood by all those involved in bringing it to pass. • People can’t run with something they don’t know or understand (Hab 2:2).
U.S. Church Attendance Statistics • 59% of churches have less than 100 members. • 80% of churches have less than 200 members. • 94% of churches have less than 500 members.
Always Start With Why • Who are you called to reach? • Who are you graced/anointed to minister to? • Is your focus local, national, international or global? • A church with a global assignment will require a different structure, functions, training, funding, etc., than a church that exists to minister onlyto a local community.
Always Start With Why • There is no right or wrong answer. • If God has called you to minister to a local community and you lead a thriving congregation of 150 members, you are a success, because you are doing what you are called to do. • It comes down to the question of “Why.”
Mission vs. Methods • Keep your mission clear. This is your “Why.” • Your methods (your “How”) must be in support of your mission, and methods can/should change over time. • Periodically reconsideryour methods. • Assess what you are doing and why you are doing it.
Mission vs. Methods • Q. You know what God said (back then), but what is God saying (right now)? • Q. Are you singing the songs God wants you to sing? • Q. Do you have the “look” God wants you to have? • Q. Are you hearing from God for this season?
Mission vs. Methods • (Mat 4:4 NIV) Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” • Fresh Word. • Rhema Word. • Q. How many churches are truly in-synch with God-ordained change? • Q. How many churches have died because they failed to discern a divine shift?
Always Start With Why • If you are called to reach people beyond your city, your state, and even your nation, then technology may be a tool God will use to help you fulfill your divine assignment. • By using technology you can reach people all over the world. • We have discussed “Why,” now let’s get into “How.”

Agenda • Setting the stage (Context) • Why (Purpose) • How (Methods) • What (Results) • Questions
What Can Happen (Results) • God can reach people, through you, using technology. • We are in the people business. • Technology cannot replace humanity, but technology can be used to reach humanity.
What Can Happen (Results) • The Gospel of the Kingdom must go out all over the globe. • (Mat 24:14 NIV) And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. • The Rick Piña Ministries content was visited by people in 168 countries in 2013.
What Can Happen (Results) • We have seen: • People saved. • Marriages restored. • Wayward children convicted and repentant. • The depressed set free. • Etc. the list could go on and on. • God has used the gifts of the Holy Spirit to minister to people across the country and around the world. • The Power of the Word is not limited to your local building.
What Technology Won’t Do • Technology will not resurrect a dead church/organization - but it can help extend the reach of one that is thriving. • Technology will not generate the anointing – but he anointing can flow through it. • Technology will not give you what to say – but more people can hear what God gives you to say by using it. • Technology is not a substitute for anything – but it can add to what you are doing and help you go further/faster.
Closing Discussion Points • How many times have you ministered to someone over the phone? • There was a time when that was new and people rejected it, because it was not in person. • How many times have you been blessed by the Word on Television or over the radio? • There was a time when people rejected it because they thought people needed to be in the room to receive.
Closing Discussion Points • Jesus did not use a microphone, but we all do. • If Jesus were alive today, would He use technology? • Would Jesus have a Facebook account? • Would Jesus Tweet? • Would JesusSTREAM His messages LIVE all over the world?
Closing Discussion Points • It all comes down to what you are called to do. • The world has changed and is changing faster than ever. • Yesterday’s methods may not reach tomorrow’s people. • Be led of the Spirit. • If this is not for you, make peace with it, and continue down your path. • If God is leading you to change, but you have not changed yet, you need to change FAST or you will get left behind.
