There are a lot of things to do to find the surface area and volume of a prism, but we need to know what they mean. Surface Area:The space that covers the face of a 3D object by using a formula. Volume:The space that fills the inside of a 3D shape. Prisms: a 3D shape that is named for the top and bottom and whose side is all rectangles.
Also, one other thing that is primary to knowing 3D shapes is nets. A net is pretty much the paper that if it is folded correctly, it will turn into a 3D shape. • Cube: its net has 4 squares in sequenced order and one square on each side. • Rectangular prism: its net has 4 rectangles going horizontal or vertically, with two squares on each side. • Triangular prism: its net has 3 squares in a sequenced order with one triangle on each side.
Square Pyramid: its net has a square in the middle with 4 triangles coming out on each side. There can be many different types of 3D pyramids, such as a triangle pyramid. The triangle replaces the square part. • Cylinder: its net has one rectangle with two circles on opposite sides.
There is a formula for most 3D shapes. • For cylinders, it is For rectangular prisms, it is For cubes, it is
Volume also has formulas for 3D shapes. • For cylinders, it is • For cubes, it is For rectangular prisms, it is
Additional Information • To estimate means to round BEFORE you do the problem to the nearest one, ten, hundred, etc. • To round means to round AFTER you do the problem to the nearest one, ten, hundred, etc.
Also, volume is always labeled units cubed, unless the units are different. • Area is always labeled units squared, unless the untis are different
Pi= 3.14 • To use this formula you need to substitute and simplify. • For the volume of cubes, s x s x s can also be side to the third power. Thank you for watching!
