    1. Chinook Indians Dylan H.

    2. The Northwest Region The Northwest region is very cool. It has one-hundred foot tall trees. Amazing. I would want to see that. Here’s the Chinook region.

    3. Climate The Chinook climate isn’t too hot; it isn’t too cold. In the summer, it’s warm. In winter, it’s cold. The river freezes in the winter. That’s the Northwest Coastal region climate.

    4. Animals There are many different animals in the Northwest region like salmon, sturgeon, and many more. The elk in the mountains use their antlers to protect themselves.

    5. Plants There are magnificent plants in the Northwest region. Fir and cedar grow to an amazing 100 feet. Fern and bushes are under the trees. Together they make forests for animals.

    6. Food The Chinook food looks delicious, especially the seafood from the Columbia River. The elk and bighorn sheep in the mountains are magnificent with those big horns. That’s the Chinook tribe food.

    7. Shelter Would you like to live in a longhouse? Well I would. There’s a lot of people in a longhouse. It’s a very warm place because of the fire used for heat and cooking. There’s also many places to sleep on the walls. That’s the Chinook shelter.

    8. Clothing The Chinook didn’t need much clothing, except in the winter. They used deerskins for dresses and leggings. They also wore woven rain hats and decorated clothes with teeth, claws, and porcupine quills.

    9. Family Life The men are in charge of hunting and training dogs. They held potlatches that could last for days. Women were in charge of gathering roots and berries. They sang, danced, and told stories for fun.

    10. European Influence When the Europeans came to the Northwest Coastal region, they saw the Chinooks. At first, they traded, and then, they stole. The Europeans also forced the Chinook off their land.

    11. Chinook Indians Today Many Chinooks still live in the Northwest region today. Also, they still make canoes. They also have traditional ceremonies today. Many Chinooks fish or log.

    12. Other There are lots of other interesting facts about the Chinook tribe. They used a umiak to hunt at sea. Also, they made, painted, and wore wooden masks during big celebrations.
