ARE YOU PREPARED TO MEET THE PROPOSED REVISIONS TO THE ACUITY RULES? In some states, The proposed definitions will change for “Acuity” and “Assessment” (R9-10-201) and “Patient Classification system” is defined.
DEFINITIONS “Acuity” means a patient’s need for hospital services based on the patient’s medical condition. “Assessment” means an analysis of a patient’s current medical condition and need for hospital services. “Patient Classification system” means a method for establishing nursing personnel requirements by unit based on a patient’s acuity.
Changes in THREE key provisions in R9-10-208 Nursing Services are proposed. C2. A patient classification system is established and implemented that reflects the assessment made by a registered nurse providing nursing services to a patient. C3. A method is established and documented that requires the hospital to verify the validity and reliability of the patient classification system for each unit every 12 months from the date of implementation. C4. If licensed capacity in an organized service is exceeded and patients are kept in areas without licensed beds, nursing personnel are assigned according to the patient classification system required in subsection (2). EXCELCARE Software meets and exceeds the proposed changes related to acuity.
EXCELCARE is a software system that focuses on ACUITY in a unique and sensible methodology It goes beyond a patient classification system that “groups” patients by needs (Macro Data). EXCELCARE identifies the individual patient’s need for nursing services (Micro Data) and does it as a by-product of creating a plan of care/pathway based on an RN assessment.
EXCELCARE Functions Care planning Plans/Pathways Documenting Computer assisted Costing Labor STANDARDS Evaluating Concurrent patient outcomes Staffing ACUITY
How It Works Assessment Standards of Care in Database Care Plan Plan of Care Guiding process Evaluating concurrent patient outcomes Staffing projections and Actual Costing by patient for staff level, shift and unit Clinical Management
FOCUS ON STAFFING FUNCTION • We parallel the Nursing Process: ASSESS, PLAN, IMPLEMENT and EVALUATE • ASSESSMENT done by the RN • PLAN developed for care from standards in EXCELCARE database • Standards include process and outcomes to IMPLEMENT and EVALUATE
ADDED VALUE- STANDARDS ALSO INCLUDE TIME REQUIRED BY LEVEL OF WORKER BY UNIT BY SHIFT. THIS CLINICAL BASED DATA IS GENERATED AUTOMATICALLY PRODUCING THE PATIENT ACUITY DATA! EXCELCARE CONVERTS THE PATIENT ACUITY MICRO DATA INTO MACRO DATA AND “GROUPS” PATIENTS IF DESIRED (Patient Classification)
Resource Projection • Project Time needed for upcoming shifts
Resource Required • Calculate standard resources required and allocate actual resources worked.
