He was once chosen to be the lead accounting tutor by his instructor. He won the Accounting Student of the Year Award for 2006-2007. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honors society. While enrolled at Gardner-Webb University, Benjamin Kimrey was a part of the Student Government Association. He helped create and maintain the budget for the many different events put on by the association in order to raise funds and awareness for a number of campus-related issues and more. He was a highly motivated and engaging student.
