The competition • One student will write a description of an object and how to build it. • Then the other student will attempt to construct the object from this description.
Event Day • One student is shown an object (may be abstract) built from but not limited to straws, push pins, Styrofoam, balls, paper cups, Popsicle sticks, Googoples, K’nex, Tinker Toys, Lego, Lincoln Logs, etc). • This student has 25 minutes to write a description of the object and how to build it. • Only numerals, words and single letters may be used. Symbols and drawings are not allowed. • All abbreviations must be defined either at the beginning or when the abbreviation is first used.
Event Day • The supervisor(judge) will collect and pass out the description to the reamining team member who will take the decription and attempt to build the original object in 20 minutes.
Scoring • The team that builds the object nearest to the original and has properly written instructions in declared the winner. • Points will be given for each piece of material placed in the proper connection and location compared to the model. • Additional connections past the model will be counted incorrect. • IF DRAWINGS OR PICTURES USED, DISQUALIFICATION
What are we going to do today? • You are going to make instructions for me on how to make a peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. • Each person will write their own directions. • There is no better score for finishing first. • I will treat it like Competition day. You get 25 minutes to write your directions. • After 25 minutes we will build your sandwiches. • Then we will try again, because this year we will win this event.
