“Bar riers which Inhibit the Transition from School to Employment” Employers answers 6th Action Meeting, The Hague, Netherlands 02th– 03th October 2013
General statistics More than 46 interviewed employers from 8 countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands & Malta) Please bear in mind that the answers of Bulgarian and Irish employers refer to only one subcategory of PwD, while the answers from the rest of the countries refer to all subcategories: Answers from Ireland: 100% concerning people with intellectual disability Answers from Bulgaria: 100% concerning people with physical disability Remarks: Most often a barrier relates to the type of disability. People with intellectual/mental disabilities face different barriers (adaptation of tasks, assistants, productivity) compared to people with physical disabilities (architectural access/universal design). The same is valid also for their most immediate needs. 2
Insight on: Working conditions Good in most answers, output based salaries and good integration, though some further adapted equipment and assignments better adapted to the type of the disability are needed. Assignments: • For people with intellectual disabilities: simple (not multi-tasks) auxiliary activities (cleaning, gardening, etc.); • For people with physical disabilities: opportunity for specialised desk/administration jobs (accountant, lawyer, graphic designer, security, etc.) or lighter work load activities (gardening & cleaning); • Depending on the type and level of disability. Productivity Stated to be good/sufficient, though depends on the disability, its severity & the personal characteristics (motivation, etc.) Nevertheless, the general perception is that the productivity is very low!
