Introduction to Green Globs & Graphing Equations Part 1 By: Ms. Carrasquillo & Ms. Settembro
Technology Standards Addressed… Standard 1: Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and applications as well as an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.
Math Standards addressed… Algebra I Standards: AI.P.3 Demonstrate an understanding of relations and functions. AI.P.5 Determine a line’s slope and x and y intercepts from its graph. Find a linear equation describing a line from a graph. AI.P.6 Find linear equations that represent lines either perpendicular or parallel to a given line and through a point. AI.P.9 Find solutions to quadratic equations (with real roots) by graphing. AI.D.1 Select, create, and interpret an appropriate graphical representation for a set of data. Compare different sets of data. Algebra II Standards: AII.P.7 Find solutions to quadratic equations AII.P.8 Solve a variety of equations using a graphical method. Use technology where appropriate. AII.P.10 Use graphical methods to solve systems of equations. Use technology where appropriate.
Introduction Math Green Globs Workshop Rubric
To Use the Program • Click on Programs in the toolbar • You will see 5 options • Equation Grapher • Linear and Quadratic Graphs • Green Globs • Tracker • Teacher Options
Using worksheets is our first step to show using the program To open the program to use the worksheets: Open equation grapher which is the first of the five functions.
Equation Grapher • Part of the program that allows students to use the worksheets. • Click on Equation Grapher in the tool bar. • Hold down clicker. • Scroll to “How to Write Equations
Next Step • After reading “How to Write Equations, click on Equation Grapher again, and hold down clicker----Click on Instructions • The program will give instructions on how to write the equations follow the steps, and click next screen.
Lets do worksheet 3 • 1. Go back to Equation Grapher • 2. Scroll down to “Graphing Grid: (-8,8) to (-8,8) • 3. Then proceed to do the paper • 4. Please write all your answers on the paper.
GREEN GLOBS-the game • Up on the tool bar---click on programs • Scroll down to Green Globs and click • How to Write Equations is repeated and it is the same as under Equation Grapher • Under the Novice Game—there are the directions—Click it and read
The Game-Continued • Click on Start if you want to play a novice game or an expert one. • You can save the game and return to it at another time. • This program will also keep track of your score.
Opening a game or a worksheet… To open a worksheet • Go to the files menu • Click open • Choose the program then give a name to the file • Then click save
Lastly: • The software program can be used by classes of different levels. • It gives the students a nice way to compare graphs. • It makes them think on how to write an equation : What is the main purpose of the slope!! What does the y-intercept mean?
Tracker Writing an equation to find a hidden graph. It is a game!
Instructions Click Start • Go to programs • Open tracker • Go to the menu bar and open programs • Go to tracks to open this program. • These are the same steps you will follow to open all the programs in green globs, equation grapher, and linear quadratic graphs.
Novice Game To use the novice game all you have to do is basically click on the type of graph you want, then you will write down the equation. The program will tell you if is right or wrong.
Find the hidden graph… To find the hidden graph all you have to do is write an equation and the program will tell you if you have the right answer.
Practice on your own.. • Teachers practice trackers • Teachers practice trackers • Questions/Concerns How do you implement this in your class?
Instructions • Go to the toolbar and click • on Linear and Quadratic Graphs • Then click on instructions. • Read Instructions • And choose one of the • Five options you are given for different graphs. • The computers • will give you the graph for • the one you choose. • Please note that every • category has different • levels of graphs.
Let’s play find the graph… The computer will give you a graph and you will have to find the equation and write it.
Do you see how this relates to student achievement especially with the improvement of math skills? • For example: • Finding slope • Finding the Y-intercept • Finding an equation of a line
