Istana Cipanas Bogor is the one of the Presidential Palace, located in the height of 1100 m above the sea surface, at least 103 km from Jakarta the Capital City. Built in 1742 by Governor General Gustav William Baron Van Inhoff. The idea of the building surfaced when a hot water source with the temperature of 43⁰ C which contains sulfur and is able to cure various illness was discovered. The complex areal of the palace is 26 hectare in size, from the whole area, until now only about 8000m² was used for buildings. The rest were fields, plantings, landscaping that were made as a little forest. According to research with Kebun Raya Cibodas – LIPI, there’s a collection of 1334 specimens, 171 species, 132 genus, and 61 families of plants. History
When the Dutch colonized Indonesia, Istana Cipanas was used for the resting place of the Dutch Governor Generals, such as Gustaaf William Baron Van Inhoff, Andreas Cornelis de Graaff, BonafaciusCornelis de Jonge and Tiarda Van Starkenborgh-Stachouwer. When Japanese colonized Indonesia, Istana Cipanas Bogor was used for transit from Jakarta to Bandung or vice versa. After the independence of Indonesia, Istana Cipanas Bogor was officially set as one of Presidential Palaces of Indonesian and family. Function
Even though Istana Cipanas was meant to be a place to rest, but this palace also held some historical events that relates to politics, economics and international matters. In 13th of December 1965, a historical event of Indonesian economics occurred at Istana Cipanas Bogor. The court room of the main building was the place where president Soekarno led the court Cabinet to reduce money value from Rp1000 to Rp 1 which is known as sanering. The other activities which correlated with nationality happened in the reigns of president Soeharto, in 14-17 April 1993 to be exact. By its means, this palace became the meeting place between Philippines fighting groups, that is between Philippines with Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) which is led by NurMisuari. At 6 of June 2005, Istana Cipanas became the memorial place of World Environment Day, where President SBY gave the Adipura Champ 2005 and Kalpataru to people who succeeded in keeping and saving the environment. In this occasion President SBY planted white teak (GmelinaArboera). Historical Events
