Duration • IF asset duration = liability duration, THEN, parallel changes in yield curve will not affect surplus • Usefulness • Liabilities not discounted - not affected by yield curve movements • Yield curve movement not parallel • VFIC report • Matching not necessarily better • Accounting standards matter
