Eligibility Requirements • To be eligible to receive financial aid you must be: • Fully admitted into a degree granting program • Provisionally admitted students are ineligible for financial aid • Enrolled at least half-time • Undergraduate Students : 6 credit hours • Graduate Students: 5 credit hours during fall/spring, 3 credit hours during summer • A U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident • In compliance with the TTUHSC Satisfactory Academic Progress policy
Applying for Financial Aid • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov • A FAFSA PIN number will be required to complete and sign your application. The PIN may be retrieved from the PIN website, www.pin.ed.gov • The school code for Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is: 016024 • (We are NOT Texas Tech University. The school code for TTUHSC must be listed on your FAFSA in • order for our office to receive the data.) • Apply for scholarships through the School of Nursing at http://www.ttuhsc.edu/son/Scholarships/default.aspx
Financial Aid Process • Yearly process: • Student completes Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov • TTUHSC receives FAFSA data from the Federal processor (typical processing time is 3-5 business days) • After data is received, the Financial Aid Office will send missing information emails to the student if additional documents are needed. Student returns those necessary documents to complete the financial aid file. • Once file is complete, the Financial Aid Office emails an award notice to the student. Students view award information online via WebRaider. The award offer outlines the programs and funding the student is eligible to receive and the steps for accepting financial aid. • Student completes the Federal Direct Loan Application process for the year. (only for students borrowing Federal Direct Loans). • Student completes Grad Plus/Alternative loan application (only for students borrowing one of these loans) • 10 days prior to the start of each semester: • Federal Direct Loan processing service electronically sends loan funds to the school • Financial aid funds (loans, grants, & scholarships) are posted towards student’s tuition accounts • The week before the start of each semester: • TTUHSC SBS Office sends any refunds to student based on student’s refund preference.
Other Financial Aid Programs • VA Benefits: The Veterans Affairs (VA) coordinator for TTUHSC is located in the Registrar's Officeand may be contacted at 806.743.2300. • Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program: Students may receive up to $20,000 per year toward the repayment of your qualified student loans in exchange for an initial two-year service obligation to practice full time at an Indian Health program site. http://www.ihs.gov/loanrepayment/ • Outstanding Rural Scholar Recognition Program (ORSRP): ORSRP is a competitive loan forgiveness program that assists rural communities in “growing their own” health care professionals. Nominees must be a Texas resident, nominated by an organization in a rural county of Texas and attend a college or university in Texas.http://www.texasagriculture.gov/GrantsServices/RuralEconomicDevelopment/StateOfficeofRuralHealth/LoanRepaymentandEducationAwards.aspx • TTUHSC Rural and Community Health Student Programs: The F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural and Community Health offers several opportunities to assist students, who are interested in a career in rural Texas, with their health care education. http://www.ttuhsc.edu/ruralhealth/studentprograms.aspx
Short Term Loans • Emergency Tuition Loans are available at 5% interest for currently enrolled TTUHSC students. • Short Term Loans for up to $500 are also available to currently enrolled students for other types of emergencies. These loans have interest rates that range from 5% to 8%. • Both types of loans must be repaid within 90 days.
