What is care farming? • Care farming uses commercial farms, woodlands and market gardens as a base for promoting mental and physical health through normal farming activity. • Care farming is a partnership between farmers, participants and health & social care agencies. • Care farming in the UK now encompasses a wide variety of enterprises, from commercially minded farms to those pursuing more social and community objectives.

Herefordshire PPO Pilot • 4 PPO’s (Prolific & Priority Offenders) engaged by West Mercia Police • £65 per person per day (£260 per day for the farmer) • 4 days per week (over £1,000 per week) • Income from care farming around £50,000 per year
Economics for Herefordshire Police and Community… PPOs ‘A’ and ‘W’ combined past offence and imprisonment history has had an approximate cost of £268,512 Comparable periods before and after joining the PPO Scheme suggests a saving of £47,741 to the community for ‘A’ and ‘W’.
