The purpose of this presentation is to show the changes in the U.S.D.A. Feeder Calf Grades that are a result of updating standards to improve the accuracy of market reporting. These Feeder Calf Grades are federal standards resulting in a consistent description of cattle throughout the U.S.

Feeder Calf Grade Changes 1 2 3 Bottom 30% of #1 moved to #2 Bottom 60% of #2 moved to # 3 These new grades will allow the heavy muscled cattle to grade #1 , the average muscled cattle to grade #2, and the light muscled to gra de #3. This defining of the muscle grades will allow graders to improve unif ormity for producers and buyers. These changes took effect October 1, 2000 . New USDA Feeder Calf Grades
