What Basic Tasks Does a Computer Perform • - Help research and find information • - A form of communication • - A form of entertainment • - Makes life easier in general
The First Computers • A list of the computers ancestors • -Adacis • - Mechanical Calculator • - Difference engine By the 40s and 50s there were more electronic computers like the Aniakand Scsyrac. These computers were seemed good at the time but they were big and used up large amounts of electricity causing them to break down often. They were also very slow.
Moving Into the Second Generation Computers The second generation computers made several important technological advances, such as • -Being smaller • - Faster • - Cheaper • - More reliable • - Had their own programming languages • The earlier computers also had their own computer languages. These languages included Hello World, Basic, 4Tran, Coball.
The third Generation of Computers • - These computers were from the ages of 65- 74. This generation of computers also made a large technological advance. • - Included a mini chip • - All had the same set of instructions • - Networking
The Creation of the Large Scale Production Computers • The personal computer. This was one of the first large scale productions of a computer that was used by and individual not an organization of an entire business. They included these new products. • - Micro- Computer • - 64 RAM • - Apple 2 • - IBM 50100- 64 RAM
Computers Being used as Educational Tools • By the 90s computers were being used in schools across North America. Students would research, study and play educational games. As good as it seemed however, studies showed that the use of the computers in a learning environment held some problems.
The Pros & Cons of Using Computers in a Classroom • Cons • - Were a distraction to some students • - Cost the school a large amount of money to install and keep • - Students developed poor writing technique • Pros • - Helped the students do more ‘exciting’ work • - Helped them find valuable information that they could not find in a text book • - Gave students the skills of how to operate a computer • - Encouraged peer to peer learning
Computers of Today and What the Future Holds • We have come along way in the development of computers. We have made unimaginable technological advances. I cant wait to see what the future holds.
