Job Duties & Responsibilities • Determine the value for a piece of land by analyzing the soil type, water quality and availability and crop potential • Inspect property and equipment used for value to sale or as security for loans • Consult with loan officers regarding the overall value assigned to the property • Document field inspections
Qualities and Skills • Analytical nature with sound reasoning and decision-making skills • Strong communication skills and be able to work well with others and understand their customers • Honesty and a hard work ethic are also necessary
Salary A rural appraiser could make anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000 per year depending on the company one works for, their location and their experience. Education A bachelor’s degree in agriculture is typically required for this profession. A higher degree would simply increase one’s chances of advancement.
Work will be done both indoors and outdoors • Much of the work is done on the computer or in a courthouse • Traveling may be necessary to visit agricultural locations • Typical 40-hour work week Work Environment
