How Did You Do? • Spring 1775- Colonial Militia Surrounds Boston • May 10, 1775- Fort Ticonderoga • June 1775- Bunker Hill • November 1775- Quebec • March 17, 1776- British retreat from Boston
Militias Surround Boston!! • 20,000 American Militia Surround Boston • British soldiers have taken over the town • Boston is hard to attack because it is almost surrounded by water
Fort Ticonderoga Captured! • May 10, 1775- Ethan Allen led an attack on British Fort Ticonderoga in NY. • Americans take the fort and capture some Artillery. • This Artillery would be moved to Boston to help force the British out.
Battle at Bunker and Breeds Hill! • Two large hills outside Boston • June 1775-Americans built fortifications on Breeds Hill, commanded by William Prescott • British attack with 2,200 troops • “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” • British Victory • 1,000 redcoats killed or wounded • 400 Americans killed or wounded
Americans Attack Quebec • November 1775-Benedict Arnold leads an American attack on Quebec Canada during a snow storm • Arnold and his troops do not take the city
British Leave Boston • Summer 1775- General Washington arrives at Boston • January 1776- Artillery arrives at Boston from Ticonderoga, and is placed on the hills above Boston • British General Howe decides that the redcoats should leave Boston by sea • March 17, 1776 • 9,000 British soldiers leave • 1,000 Loyalist Americans leave
