Animal Camouflage • Hypothesis: Write your prediction here. How does camouflage affect survival rates? • Purpose: To view the effects of animal camouflage on natural selection. • Materials: black beads, colored beads, 1 multicolored container with lid, 1 black and white container with lid, data sheet, pencil or pen.
Procedure: • Count out 50 black beads and place in container • Count out 50 “other” color beads and place in container • Fill in the “AT START” columns on your data sheet. PERCENT OF TOTAL = ___# of beads__ X 100 total beads in box
FEEDING RULES 4. Look into container and pick 1 bead. Keep your eyes OPEN! Pick the FIRST ONE you SEE! NO picking your favorite color! Only pick ONE AT A TIME! 5. Shake, choose, repeat until you remove 20 beads. http://www.feebleminds-gifs.com/ani5.html
AFTER 1ST FEEDING • Calculate number of black beads IN BOX 7. Calculate number of “other” color beads IN BOX 8. Fill in “AFTER 1ST FEEDING” column on data sheet. PERCENT OF TOTAL = ___# of beads_ X 100 total beads in box
