Doceri Training Storyboards By: Christopher Bartles
About Doceri Training Storyboards • Provided are all of the storyboards that are associated with the Doceri Training that will be presented to the teachers at the William J. Johnston Middle School. Training itself will be shown using the Doceri software. Images provided are screenshots from the Doceri training. All screenshots are presented in full screen after each descriptive slide.
About Using Doceri • In order to get the most out of reading these storyboards, it is important to understand how the Doceri software works. Annotations, or drawings, are completed over any background, and the presenter can play these drawings back, animated in such a way that they appear as if they are being drawn in real time. The images shown in these storyboards do not necessarily show the progression of the individual lesson, but rather each drawing as it will be displayed at the completion of the slide, unless otherwise noted.
Slide # 1 What is Doceri? Onscreen Content This is a brief description of what Doceri is and what Doceri can do, provided by SP Controls with the Doceri software suite. The presentation is authored by Gwen Fisher. This page emphasizes the main points of the Doceri software, mainly the functions of the Doceri remote app to the control a computer and to provide remote handwriting capabilities. Detailed Script Assessment notes The trainer will be discussing what the Doceri software suite is, and how is can be used. This screen, provided with the download of the Doceri software, is being used in this project to explain what Doceri is, and what it can do for the teachers. Since they have not experienced Doceri before, it is important that this is explained first so they will know what the program they are learning about can do. No assessment will be completed at this slide. Teachers will have handouts with the same information, and will be encouraged to highlight/take notes as they need. Interactivity / Navigation This training occurs in a linear fashion, and will be presented in the same order using the Doceri software suite. Each lesson will flow into the next lesson and is ordered in such a way as to ensure both the smooth flowing of the training and the most effective learning for the teachers being trained.
Slide # 2 What can Doceri do? Onscreen Content This shows some of the capabilities of the Doceri software. The main uses of the Doceri Remote app are identified and explained. This Doceri annotation was provided by SP Controls with the Doceri software suite and is authored by Gwen Fisher. Detailed Script Assessment notes The trainer will still be explaining what the Doceri software can do. This slide provided real-time examples of the capabilities of Doceri. It is important to show the teachers all of the capabilities of the software they are being trained on before the training. The more the trainer can “sell” the teachers on the software, the easier the training will be because the teachers will be more likely to want to implement the software.
Slide # 3 How do you use Doceri? Onscreen Content This screen will also present some of the capabilities of the Doceri software. The main uses of the Doceri Remote app will be identified and explained. This Doceri annotation was provided by SP Controls with the Doceri software suite and is authored by Gwen Fisher. Detailed Script Assessment notes Similarly to the previous slide, the trainer will be explaining what the Doceri software can do. This slide provides additional real-time examples of the capabilities of Doceri, and how it works. It is important to show the teachers all of the capabilities of the software they are being trained on before the training. The more the trainer can “sell” the teachers on the software, the easier the training will be because the teachers will be more likely to want to implement the software.
Slide # 4 Doceri Sample Lesson - Math Onscreen Content This is a sample lesson for content covered in Eighth Grade Mathematics at WJJMS. The lesson was provided by SP Controls with the Doceri Software, and was authored by Gwen Fisher. The animated drawing of this lesson will show math teachers how the Doceri software can be used in their classes. Detailed Script Assessment notes In order for teachers to adapt to use new technology, there needs to be relevance to the teachers. Since all of the teachers participating in the training will be eighth grade teachers who teach math, science, English or history, sample lessons for each content area will be provided. This will allow for the teachers to see a real lesson that uses Doceri. They will be able to see actual applications of the software they are being trained to use. This specific content area is mathematics. Math teachers will be asked to think about a topic that they would like to create a Doceri lesson to teach. This lesson will be created at the end of the training. Interactivity / Navigation This training occurs in a linear fashion, and will be presented in the same order using the Doceri software suite. Each lesson will flow into the next lesson and is ordered in such a way as to ensure both the smooth flowing of the training and the most effective learning for the teachers being trained.
Slide # 5 Doceri Sample Lesson - English Onscreen Content This is a sample lesson for content covered in Eighth Grade English at WJJMS. The lesson was created by Christopher Bartles, using the Doceri software and a lesson provided by the English department at WJJMS. The animated drawing of this lesson will show English teachers an example of how the Doceri software can be used in their classes. English teachers will be asked to think about a topic that they would like to create a Doceri lesson to teach.
Slide # 6 Doceri Sample Lesson - Science Onscreen Content This is a sample lesson for content covered in Eighth Grade Science at WJJMS. The lesson was created by Christopher Bartles, using the Doceri software and a lesson provided by the science department at WJJMS. The animated drawing of this lesson will show science teachers how the Doceri software can be used in their classes. Science teachers will be asked to think about a topic that they would like to create a Doceri lesson to teach.
Slide # 7 Doceri Sample Lesson – Social Studies Onscreen Content This is a sample lesson for content covered in Eighth Grade History/Social Studies at WJJMS. The lesson was provided by SP Controls with the Doceri Software, and was authored by Gwen Fisher. The animated drawing of this lesson will show history/social studies teachers an example of how the Doceri software can be used in their classes. History teachers will be asked to think about a topic that they would like to create a Doceri lesson to teach.
Slide # 8 Doceri Desktop Onscreen Content This shows the icon that will be on the desktops of all of the computers available at the training. This icon is how the teachers will be taught to launch Doceri Desktop. Detailed Script Assessment notes Using the Doceri software requires the use of two programs, one on the computer (Doceri Desktop) and one on the iPad (Doceri Remote). This slide will explain to teachers how to launch Doceri Desktop. This is important because without Doceri Desktop running, there won’t be a computer to control with Doceri Remote. Doceri Desktop needs to be run before Doceri Remote, so this is where it would fit into the training.
Slide # 9 Doceri Desktop Onscreen Content The Connection Dashboard is what is opened when the Doceri Desktop program is run. The instructor will provide a brief explanation of the Connection Dashboard, and will explain how to close this window. Detailed Script Assessment notes The Connection Dashboard opens when Doceri Desktop is activated. The trainer will explain the important point of the Connection Dashboard, and will instruct all teachers to close the window after opening the program. The Connection Dashboard does not need to remain open to use the Doceri Software suite. Since teachers are currently being trained to use the Doceri Desktop software, this training would fit here because teachers just opened up Doceri Desktop.
Slide # 10 Doceri Desktop Onscreen Content In order to ensure that Doceri Desktop is running, teachers will be instructed to look for the icon showing that Doceri Desktop is running. This slide will show the icon that runs in the background when Doceri Desktop is active. Detailed Script Assessment notes The instructor will explain how teachers can tell if Doceri Desktop is running on their computers. There is a background icon that is only present if Doceri Desktop is running. If this icon isn’t there, teachers will be instructed to open Doceri Desktop. This fits at this point in the sequence because this is the last piece of information teachers need to have about Doceri Desktop. For the assessment of this specific training, Teachers will be asked to demonstrate their competency in both running Doceri Desktop and ensuring that Doceri Desktop is running in the background. The trainer and facilitators will circulate around the class ensuring everyone has mastered this skill. Interactivity / Navigation This training occurs in a linear fashion, and will be presented in the same order using the Doceri software suite. Each lesson will flow into the next lesson and is ordered in such a way as to ensure both the smooth flowing of the training and the most effective learning for the teachers being trained.
Slide # 11 Doceri GoodPoint Stylus Onscreen Content This screen will show teachers how to disable Multitasking Gestures (only for iPad 2 or newer) which is a necessary step for proper use of the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus. Detailed Script Assessment notes This slide will be instructing teachers on how to disable Multitasking Gestures to ensure that the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus works properly. If Multitasking Gestures are enabled, the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus will NOT work. The annotations will be drawn as the instructor explains how to access the controls menu and disable Multitasking Gestures. This training goes here in the sequence because the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus is necessary for the use of the Doceri Remote software, which will be the next main training topic.
Slide # 12 Doceri GoodPoint Stylus Onscreen Content This will explain the major parts of the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus (the headphone jack, the eraser and the pen tip) and what each part is used for. Detailed Script Assessment notes This slide will be instructing teachers on how to use the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus properly. The annotations will be drawn as the instructor explains the three major parts of the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus. This fits into the sequence here because teachers have just been trained on disabling Multitasking Gestures to ensure the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus works properly, and the Doceri GoodPoint stylus will be used with the upcoming Doceri Remote training. For the assessment of this specific training, Teachers will be asked to demonstrate the ability to set up and use the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus.
Slide # 13 Doceri Remote Onscreen Content When the Doceri Remote app is launched, this is the screen that teachers will see. Teachers can choose to create lessons on just the iPad or they can connect and create lessons through a computer. Both options will be explored in the training. Detailed Script Assessment notes This portion of the training will instruct teachers about the use of the Doceri Remote software. The image shown is the launch screen that is shown when the Doceri Remote app starts. Teachers will be instructed that the first choice can be used to create Doceri animations and presentations from anywhere (it is not necessary that a computer is present) while the second choice connects the user with a computer that can then be controlled through the Doceri Remote app. The trainer should emphasize that the controls for making drawings or annotations are the same for both options. This training fits here because the Doceri Desktop software is necessary for the proper use of Doceri Remote, as well as the Doceri GoodPoint Stylus, and these training pieces have already been completed.. Since the teachers are new to the Doceri suite, each step of the process should be explained to them.
Slide # 14 Doceri Remote Onscreen Content When choosing to connect through a computer, this screen will show all of the available computers that are running the Doceri Desktop software. The trainer will emphasize that there will be several computers that are visible at this point, but the training was only designed with access to a single computer running Doceri Desktop. Detailed Script Assessment notes This portion of the training will instruct teachers about the use of the Doceri Remote software. The image shown is the computer connection screen. It only shows one available computer, although at the training there will be more visible computers (during the creation of the storyboards, there was only access to one computer with Doceri). The trainer should use this image to explain how to connect to a computer with the Doceri Remote app. This training fits here because this is the next step after opening the Doceri Remote app. It is necessary for teachers to connect to a computer to complete the rest of the training. For the assessment of this specific training, Teachers will be asked to demonstrate the ability to use Doceri Remote to connect to a computer running Doceri Desktop.
Slide # 15 Doceri Remote Onscreen Content This screen shows the Doceri Remote when connected to a computer, and also shows what occurs when the screen is tapped on. The crosshairs represent a mouse click. The trainer will use this to manipulate icons on the desktop and open programs/files to show the capabilities of Doceri Remote as an interactive whiteboard that can control the computer. Detailed Script Assessment notes This portion of the training will instruct teachers about the use of the Doceri Remote software. The image shown is a screen shot from the iPad tablet showing what happens when the user presses (or clicks) on the screen. The trainer will show how the Doceri Remote app can manipulate icons, open programs/files and control the computer. This training fits here because this is the screen teachers will see when connected to a computer. For the assessment of this specific training, Teachers will be asked to demonstrate the ability to manipulate icons on the desktop with the Doceri Remote app. Teachers will also be asked to demonstrate competency in opening files/programs on the computer using Doceri Remote.
Slide # 16 Doceri Remote Onscreen Content This screen will show and explain the drawing controls, accessed either through the drawing icon if connected through a computer or through the default screen if editing on an iPad only. Each icon will be identified and explained throughout this portion of the training. Detailed Script Assessment notes This portion of the training will instruct teachers about the use of the Doceri Remote software. The image shown is the screen that the user will be viewing when using the Doceri remote app for creating drawings or animations. Due to the fact that this contains a lot of information, each button will be identified using the shown labels, and each will be erased before the next button is identified. This slide simply shows all of the buttons, but may be complicated to follow what each button does. After teachers are familiar with the computer controls of the Doceri Remote, the next portion of the training will cover using the iPad to make annotations/drawings. This is the next step in the training, because this is one of the important pieces of the Doceri software suite, and it fits after learning how to control the computers.
Slide # 17 Doceri Remote Onscreen Content This screen will show and explain the timeline controls, accessed by pulling down the Timeline Controls menu on the drawing screen (both if connected through a computer and if editing on an iPad only) . Each icon will be identified and explained throughout this portion of the training. Detailed Script Assessment notes This portion of the training will instruct teachers about the use of the Doceri Remote software. The image shown is the screen that the user will be viewing when using the Doceri remote app for creating drawings or animations if the Timeline Controls are pulled down. Again, due to the fact that this contains a lot of information, each button will be identified using the shown labels, and each will be erased before the next button is identified. This slide simply shows all of the buttons, but may be complicated to follow what each button does. After the drawing tools are explained, the Timeline Controls Pulldown is the next logical step. Drawing tools can control the drawings, but the timeline allows the user to animate what they have drawn, and play notes/drawings back in real-time. For the assessment of this portion of the training, teachers will be asked to demonstrate their ability to open, save and create drawings using the Doceri Remote. Teachers will also be asked to demonstrate their competency in manipulating the timeline controls.
Slide # 18 Doceri and SMARTboard Onscreen Content This portion of the presentation will integrate the Doceri software suite with the SMARTboard interactive whiteboards that are in the classrooms. The SMARTnotebook software will be controlled using the Doceri Remote app. While the screenshots of this task can be provided, it would only show a picture of the SMARTnotebook software either on a computer or on the iPad. It is impossible to show in still images what this portion of the training would look like. It will, however, entail using the “mouse tool” of the Doceri Remote app to manipulate the SMARTnotebook software. Detailed Script Assessment notes After learning how to use Doceri Remote to control a computer as well as to remotely draw on the computer, the next piece of the training will involve incorporating what the teachers have learned with the SMARTnotebook software . Teachers will observe the instructor manipulating the SMARTnotebook features with the Doceri Remote. This training comes at the end because it is important to have a good understanding of the functions of the Doceri Remote before trying to manipulate the SMARTboard with the program. For the assessment of this specific training, Teachers will be asked to demonstrate the ability to manipulate SMARTnotebook objects with the Doceri software.
Slide # 19 Lesson Creation Onscreen Content Teachers are going to be given time to design a Doceri-assisted lesson that incorporates the topics covered in this training. Each lesson will need a minimum of three “slides” with drawings as needed. Detailed Script Assessment notes This is the culminating activity for the training. The purpose of the training is to get teachers to use the Doceri software suite in their classrooms, and they can get more familiar with the software and how they would implement it in their own curriculum if they have created an entire lesson on their own. Since this is the summative assessment of the unit, it is important that it comes last in the progression. The summative assessment of this training will be the creation, and brief sharing, of a single lesson using the Doceri software suite. Teachers will be asked to create a lesson, and then will quickly share the lesson with the training session at the end of the training. Interactivity / Navigation This training occurs in a linear fashion, and will be presented in the same order using the Doceri software suite. Each lesson will flow into the next lesson and is ordered in such a way as to ensure both the smooth flowing of the training and the most effective learning for the teachers being trained.
