  1. Is There A God?

  2. How Old is the Earth? 4.5 to 5 Billion Years Old

  3. “evolution has been observed. It’s just that it hasn’t been observed while it’s happening.” – Richard Dawkins (ibid) “not a scientific argument at all, but a religious one.” – Richard Dawkins (One Side Can Be Wrong – The Guardian, Sept. 1, 2005) “among the things that science does know, evolution is about as certain as anything we know” – Richard Dawkins (Now with Bill Moyers, Dec. 3, 2004)

  4. “... In geology and biology, denying the facts of evolution or an earth age in the order of billions of years, would, in my view, be grounds for drastic action. ...Resorting to arguments based on religious commitments, personal inspirations, revelations, and such would not be acceptable defenses; however, logically coherent arguments based on valid evidence could be. …” (John W. Patterson, former professor at Iowa State university – Zuidema, p. 18, emp. added, via November/December 1984 issue of Liberty magazine) “… Decisions as to what is logically coherent or what is valid evidence would have to be made by appropriate faculty experts or panels who might also be called to task if their rationale(s) reflect academic irresponsibility or scholarly incompetence” (John W. Patterson, former professor at Iowa State university – Zuidema, p. 18, emp. added, via November/December 1984 issue of Liberty magazine) “Never cite a religious science source such as ICR, Answers in Genesis, or anything else like that … if the thesis of your paper is anti-evolutionary (akin to arguing against the germ theory of disease or against the atomic theory of matter) you will receive a failing grade.” (“Bias in higher education” – Answersingenesis.org, March 2003) “The central, unifying principle of biology is the theory of evolution. … How can someone who does not accept the most important theory in biology expect to properly practice in a field that is so heavily based on biology?” (Michael L. Dini, associate professor of biology at Texas Tech University, The New York Times, February 3, 2003, Professor’s Snub of Creationists Prompts U. S. Inquiry) “If you set up an appointment to discuss the writing of a letter of recommendation, I will ask you: ‘How do you think the human species originated?’ If you cannot truthfully and forthrightly affirm a scientific answer to this question, then you should not seek my recommendation for admittance to further education in the biomedical sciences.” (Michael L. Dini, associate professor of biology at Texas Tech University, www2.tltc.ttuedu/dini/Personal/letters.htm – From – www.answersingenesis.org/docs2003/0114dini.asp) “I suggest that every professor should reserve the right to fail any student in his class no matter what the grade record indicates, whenever basic misunderstandings of a certain magnitude are discovered. Moreover, I would propose retracting grades and possibly even degrees if such gross misunderstandings are publicly espoused after passing the course, or after being graduated....” (John W. Patterson, former professor at Iowa State university – Zuidema, p. 18, emp. added, via November/December 1984 issue of Liberty magazine) “[Someone who denies evolution] has committed malpractice regarding the method of science … how can someone who denies the theory of evolution – the very pinnacle of modern biological science – ask to be recommended into a scientific profession by a professional scientist?” (Michael L. Dini, associate professor of biology at Texas Tech University, ibid.)

  5. If all scientists believe evolution to be true … Then it has to be true! Right?!

  6. Scientific Method • Characterization • Hypotheses • Predictions • Experiments

  7. Scientific Method • Define the Question • Gather Information • Form Hypothesis • Perform experiment • Analyze Data • Interpret data & Draw conclusions • Publish Results • Retest (Peer review) Theory of Evolution? Big Bang Theory?

  8. Is it true that all scientists believe in Darwin’s Theory of Evolution? “We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.” (www.discovery.org) NO!

  9. Physicians & Surgeons Who Dissent From Darwin “We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the origination and complexity of life and we therefore dissent from Darwinian macroevolution as a viable theory. This does not imply the endorsement of any alternative theory” Physicians and Surgeons Who Dissent From Darwinism – www.pssiinternational.com

  10. Evolution is nothing more than a system of Faith! Breeding population of 100 million … New Generation produced daily … Good evolutionary results would be about once every … 274 billion years Dr. George G. Simpson (The Major Features of Evolution, New York: Columbia University Press, 1953, p. 96 Take TIME out of the equation and evolution falls apart!

  11. But scientists have proven that the age of the earth is around 4.5 to 5 Billion years old. Have They?

  12. “No terrestrial rocks closely approaching an age of 4.6 billion years have yet been discovered. The evidence for the age of the earth is circumstantial, being based upon … indirect reasoning.” Dr. Stephen Moorebath, University of Oxford (Scientific American, March 1977, pg. 92) “There is no evidence based solely on solar observations that the Sun is 4.5 to 5 billion years old. … I suspect that the Sun is 4.5 billion years old. However, given some new and unexpected results to the contrary, and some time for frantic recalculation and theoretical readjustment, I suspect that we could live with Bishop Ussher’s value for the age of the Earth and Sun … I don’t think we have much in the way of observational evidence in astronomy to conflict with that” John Eddy, evolutionary astronomer (Eddy, John, 1978, Geotimes, September)

  13. All methods of dating are based on “assumptions” Assumption #1: Scientists believe they know the decay rate of Uranium-238 to Lead-206 Assumption #2: No lead-206 at formation Assumption – A fact or statement taken for granted Assumption #3: Nothing occurred to the rock to alter the parent or daughter element since the beginning Assumption #4: Decay rates are constant from formation to present

  14. ““The age of our globe is presently thought to be some 4.5 billion years, based on radiodecay rates of uranium and thorium. Such “confirmation” may be short-lived, as nature is not to be discovered quite so easily. There has been in recent years the horrible realization that radiodecay rates are not as constant as previously thought, nor are they immune to environmental influences. …” - Jueneman, Frederic B. 1982. Industrial Research and Development, June “… And this could mean that the atomic clocks are reset during some global disaster, and events which brought the Mesozoic [age] to a close may not be 65 million years ago, but rather, within the age and memory of man” - Jueneman, Frederic B. 1982. Industrial Research and Development, June

  15. But by using different methods we are able to arrive at the same age … right?

  16. Case #1: Cardenas Lavas • Potassium-Argon – 860 million years • Rubidium Strontium – 1,160 million years • A difference of 300 million years (E. H. McKee and D. C. Noble, “Age of the Cardenas Lavas, Grand Canyon Arizona,” Geological Society of America Bulletin 87 (August 1976), pp. 1188-1190)

  17. Case #2: Basalt rock from Nigeria • Conventional Geology –2-26 million years • Fission Tracks – <30 million years • Potassium-Argon – 95 million years • Uranium-Helium – 750 million years (Nature Physical Science, Vol. 232 (July 19, 1971), pp. 60-61)

  18. What happens when they get differing results? “In conventional interpretation of potassium-argon age date, it is common to discard ages which are substantially too high or too low compared with the rest of the group or with other available data such as the geologic time scale. The discrepancies between the rejected and the accepted are arbitrarily attributed to excess or loss of argon.” – A. Hayatsu, Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences 16 (1979), 974

  25. “Many archaeologists still think of radiocarbon dating as a scientific technique that must be either right or wrong. Would that it were so simple.” He states 1870 BC (plus or minus 6) is “the earliest actual recorded date in human history.” (Froelich Rainey, “Dating the Past,” 1971 Yearbook of Science and the Future (Britannica), pp. 390-391)

  26. Great Amount of Faith involved in believing the Theory of Evolution

  27. What about the Dinosaurs? “Evidence of hemoglobin, and the still recognizable shapes of red blood cells in unfossilized dinosaur bone is powerful testimony against the whole idea of dinosaurs living millions of years ago.” Carl Wieland, “Sensational Dinosaur Blood Report” Creation ex nihilo. Vol. 19(4), 1997, p. 42-43

  28. So, How old are dinosaurs? • Same age as man! • Both created on Day 6

  29. Is There A God? What evidence is there for an Intelligent Designer?

  30. Bacterial Flagellum “If the creation of a simple device (like a mouse trap) requires intelligent design, then we have to ask, ‘What about the finely tuned machines of the cellular world?’” (Behe, The Case For Creation – The Scientific Case For Creation) “Flagellum’s propeller can spin at 10,000 rpm … stop spinning within a quarter turn and instantly start spinning the other way at 10,000 rpm.” (Behe, The Case For Creation – The Scientific Case For Creation) “The most efficient machine in the universe” (Howard Berg of Harvard)

  31. The Human Body “To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree.” (Charles Darwin) “Yet reason tells me, that if numerous gradations from a perfect and complex eye to one very imperfect and simple, each grade being useful to its possessor, can be shown to exist; if further, the eye does vary ever so slightly, and the variations be inherited, which is certainly the case; and if any variation or modification in the organ be ever useful to an animal under changing conditions of life, then the difficulty of believing that a perfect and complex eye could be formed by natural selection, though insuperable by our imagination can hardly be considered real.” (Charles Darwin)

  32. Richard Dawkins “The majority of animal phyla already in an advanced state of evolution, the very first time they appear. It is as though they were just planted there, without any evolutionary history. Needless to say, this appearance of sudden planting has delighted creationists. Evolutionists of all stripes believe, however, that this really does represent a very large gap in the fossil record.” Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker • Cambrian Explosion • ½ billion animals suddenly appear in the fossil record

  33. Why is it so hard to believe in Intelligent Design? The Evidence is all around you!

  34. Why then don’t scientists admit the possibility of God? They Simply don’t WANT TO!

  35. Stein: Well then who did create the heavens and the Earth? Dawkins: Why do you use the word ‘Who’? You see, you immediately beg the question by using the word ‘Who’. Stein: Well then how did it get created? Dawkins: Well, by a very slow process.

  36. Dawkins: Nobody knows how it started. We know the kind of event that it must have been. We know the sort of event that must have happened for the origin of life Stein: And what was that? Dawkins: It was the origin of the first self-replicating molecule.

  37. Stein: Right, and how did that happen? Dawkins: I’ve told you, we don’t know. Stein: So you have no idea how it started? Dawkins: No. Nor has anybody. Stein: Nor has anyone else. Stein: What do you think is the possibility that there’s an intelligent design might turn out to be the answer to some issues in genetics or Darwinian evolution?

  38. Dawkins: Well, it would come about in the following way: Dawkins: It could be that at some earlier time somewhere in the universe a civilization evolved by probably some kind of Darwinian means to a very, very high level of technology, and designed a form of life that they seeded onto perhaps this planet.

  39. Dawkins: Now that is a possibility and an intriguing possibility. And I suppose it’s possible that you might find evidence for that if you look at the details of biochemistry and molecular biology you might find a signature of some sort of designer.

  40. Dawkins: And that designer could well be a higher intelligence from elsewhere in the Universe. But that higher intelligence would itself had to have come about by some explicable – or ultimately explicable process. Dawkins: He couldn’t have just jumped into existence spontaneously, that’s the point.

  41. Stein then questions Dawkins about the existence of a god – the Hebrew God of the OT, the holy trinity of the NT and Hindu gods. Dawkins denies the existence of any of them. Dawkins: How can you ask such a question? How could I? Why would I, given that I don’t believe in any others?

  42. Stein: Well, I just wanted to be sure. So you don’t believe in any god, anywhere? Dawkins: Any god, anywhere would be completely incompatible with anything that I’ve said. Stein: I just wanted to make sure: You don’t believe in ANY god anywhere. Dawkins: No

  43. Stein: What if after you died you ran into God, he said “What’ve you been doing, Richard?! I mean, what’ve you been doing? I’ve been trying to be nice to you, I gave you a multi-million dollar paycheck over and over again with your book and look what you did!”

  44. Dawkins: Bertrand Russell had that point put to him and he said something like “Sir, why did you take such pains to hide yourself?” “19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,” Romans 1:19-22

  45. Does it take faith to believe in God? YES!!!
