Evidence for Continental Drift I. Wegener used 3 types of evidence support his theory: • Land Features Leave space between each B. Fossils C. Climate
A. Land Features • Thecontinents look liketheycouldfittogether • Themountainsalso line up evenly
B. Fossils 1. Similar fossilswerefoundondifferentcontinents
2. Evidence of tropical plantsfound in cold places (fossils, coal) C. Climate 1. Evidence of glaciersfound in warm places
Climate 1. Evidence of glaciersfound in warm places • 2. Evidence of tropical plantsfound in coldplaces (fossils, coal)
Wegeners Hypothesis REJECTED • Scientists at the time (1910s) rejected Wegeners hypothesis because he couldn’t explain what was pulling or pushing the continents apart. • Today, scientists think he was right.
Due Tuesday • Section 3 Assessment • Big book pg. 140 • Small book pg. 22
