Your Turn – Debate Between FDR and Talmadge • One person = FDR • One person = Talmadge • The year is 1932. The country has been in the Great Depression for almost 3 years and something has to be done. Knowing what you know about FDR and Talmadge (also on pages 376-381), write a script for a conversation betweenFDR and Talmadge discussing each other’s plans • Questions to Consider • What did FDR want to do in order to get the country out of the Depression? • Why would someone not want the government to assist? • Why was Talmadge against the New Deal? • Do you think it is more important to help your own state or do what is considered best for the country? • Think about the pros and cons of each person’s point of view. If you are Talmadge, keep in mind that you will be attacking the weak points of FDR and trying to push your positives. The same goes if you are FDR. • *THIS REQUIRES CREATIVITY, CRITICAL THINKING, AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF EACH PERSON’S POINT OF VIEW. IT IS TOUGH! Tackle it!
