Step 1 – WASFA Submission • Student fills out WASFA application
Step 2 • SFS notifies student their WASFA has been received and how to prepare for Verification
Step 3 – WASFA Verification (VER) • SFS will initiate WASFA Verification for ALL students who submitted a WASFA application to WSU • 3 forms of WASFA Verification • Dependent • Verifying Household Size • Student & Parent Income • Independent • Verifying Household Size • Student Income & Spouses’ income if applicable • WASFA Dependency Verification • Determining weather student is dependent OR independent • Completing dependency verification does not = VER complete
Step 3 – WASFA VER continued • EXAMPLE: Household Size VER on SubmitSFSdocs
Acceptable documents for WASFA VER for 2019-2020 Step 3 – WASFA VER continued Income VER: • SIGNED Copies of 2017 Tax Returns (U.S. or Foreign) • 2017 W2’s • Copies of paychecks from 2017 • Proof of employment from employers – Letters • Letter of Explanation – LAST • Once a student submits documents, the outstanding To-Do item will disappear
Step 3 – WASFA VER continued • If additional documents or clarification is need: • SFS will initiate a WASFA additional documents to-do list item • Communication detailing what needs to be submitted or clarified will also be sent
Step 3 – WASFA VER continued • Once VER is complete, SFS notifies student
Step 4 – WASFA Awarding • Once SFS awards a student with WASFA funds they will receive the following communication
Step 4 – WASFA Awarding • Type of Aid available to WASFA students: • Washington State Need Grant (WSNG) • College Bound (CB) • Cougar Commitment Grant (CC) • Institutional Grant – Students in this group do not qualify for WSNG, CB or CC
Example: WASFA student without CB eligibility Step 4 – WASFA Awarding continued Example: WASFA student with Institutional Grant & Waiver
Work-Study • DACA Students: • Under WASFA qualify for STATE Work-Study • Employer will verify student has work permit SFS does not • HB 1079 Students: • Under WASFA qualifies as resident for TUITION purposes only • Does not qualify for Work-Study

Mid July Step 1: Financial aid package created Step 3: Tuition & Fee charges are posted to your student account Step 2: Student accepts types of funding he/she wants The Aid Disbursement Process 3. 1. 2. Pacific Northwest Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation PNW LSAMP The PNW LSAMP is a grant awarded to WSU with a purpose to increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation rate of underrepresented minorities (URMs) in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). 3 Goals of the program are: • To increase pathways to college for URMs in STEM. • Create a culture and community of success for URMs in STEM at WSU to improve retention & graduation rates. • Expand opportunities for URMs in STEM majors to participate in campus-based and national undergraduate research experiences.
