Ambiguity • Ambiguity - a doubtfulness or uncertainty about the intention or meaning of something • An example of ambiguity could be found in the Giver, while the ending is very unclear, leaving the reader to draw his or her own conclusions. • (If you’ve not read the Giver, just think of a book with no clear ending.)
Irony What actually happens in a situation in contrast to what is expected. An example in literature can be found in the Great Gatsby, when Gatsby, the man who built his wealth on lies and illegal alcohol sales, dies in a pool of water in the position of Jesus on the crucifix.
