Drought: • Lack of rainfall for a long period of time. Conditions are very dry.
Global Warming: • The warming of the earth caused by human activities. . • The Greenhouse Effect: Scientists are sure about the greenhouse effect. They know that greenhouse gases make the Earth warmer by trapping energy in the atmosphere. • A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans.
Loss of habitat: • Destruction of forest, rain forest decreases the amount of land for organisms to live. • Humans play a role in loss of habitat due to new homes and buildings and the need to use other resources in excess.
Other conditions that affect species • Oil spills • Water pollution • Red tide-over growth of algae that has toxins causes coughing and rash. • Floods • Smog • Acid rain • Soil erosion/infertile soil
Natural Selection: • Genetic Variation • Certain variations will help species survive in the environment
Survival of the fittest: • Some species are able to survive in certain environmental conditions than others. • Those individual species that survive are able to pass their genetic information on to their offspring. • This ensures (makes it possible) for survival of the species for future generations.
