COURSE SPOTLIGHT:ENEE 159A Programming Concepts for Engineers II Professor Shuvra S. BhattacharyyaTo all Electrical Engineering majors who have not yet taken ENEE 114: There are now two options for satisfying the programming concepts requirement for your major: ENEE 114 and ENEE 159A. ENEE 114 is intended for students who have little or no programming background, and will cover fundamentals of procedural programming. Programming assignments in ENEE 114 will be based on the C programming language. ENEE 159A is intended for students who are comfortable with the fundamentals of procedural programming—in particular data types, variables, loops, conditional statements, and functions. ENEE 159A will cover intermediate topics in procedural programming, and fundamentals of object-oriented programming. Programming assignments in ENEE 114 will be based on the Java and C programming languages (mostly Java). Students who successfully complete ENEE 159A will receive 4 credits, and will not need to take ENEE 114. To register for ENEE 159A, one should first take a short (30 minute) placement test to demonstrate proficiency with procedural programming fundamentals, as described above. Students who are comfortable with the basics of procedural programming are encouraged to take this placement test, since ENEE 159A is much better suited to those who have background in these programming fundamentals. Space in ENEE 159A is limited for Spring 2007, so students who would like to take the placement test are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
