  4. History • The oldest sailing race in the Caribbean with a unique and rich history. Trading schooners competed to be the fastest and therefore likely most profitable schooner. • The first organised Round Barbados Race was held in 1936, contested by 5 schooners and won by Capt. Lou Kennedy’s “Sea Fox”in a time of 10 hours 20 minutes. • The Race captured the imagination of sailors, media and the public alike, with popular calypsos of the time featuring the race. • News reports are enshrined in the Barbados archives as a testament to importance of the race.

Objectives • To establish this unique event as a “must do” for all sailors, and place it firmly at the start of the international sailing calendar • To leverage the history and heritage behind the Round Barbados Race to the benefit of Mount Gay Rum and associated sponsor brands • To bring a world class sailing event to Barbados, growing the benefits of sports tourism, whilst capturing the interest and imagination of Barbadian consumers and spectators.

The Event • ONE DAY: • The Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race is held on January 21st annually, in honor of The Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow, founder member of The Barbados Cruising Club. • ONE RACE: • The Race is open to sailing yachts. 2010 saw Elena, 55-metre Racing Schooner sailing against Lisa a local 27-foot yacht. • The Race starts and finishes in Carlisle Bay off The Barbados Cruising Club and yachts sail north about the Island. • ONE GOAL: • Yachts aim to break the record time in their class. • ONE HISTORY: • The oldest Caribbean sailing race. Organised by The Barbados Cruising Club in association with Mount Gay Rum and The Barbados Tourism Authority.

The Event 2012 • A 5 day programme of social and sailing events, featuring an optional handicapped race on day 2, and the signature Round Barbados Race on day 4. • Building on the success of 2011, and to further enrich the event in the eyes of competitors, sponsors, local and international media and the Barbadian public the organisers intend to site the Regatta Village in Independence Square, with participating yachts berthed in the Inner Basin of the Careenage. An area recently listed as a UNESCO World Herritage Site. • The social programme encompasses events held at the Regatta Village, The Barbados Cruising Club and The Mount Gay Rum Visitors Centre. • The formal regatta dinner will be held at The Beach House, St. James, followed by the grand prize giving ceremony. • Local and International media are invited to attend (and participate) in both social and sailing activities alike. • Around 30 yachts are expected to participate

Sponsorship Opportunities • Gold Sponsorship packages are available for the following categories; • Official Banking and financial institution • Official Time piece • Official Real estate provider • Official Clothing • Official Media house • Official Telecommunications provider • The Value for each official title designation is $50,000 cash • The sponsors will receive the following benefits; • Brand association in all event communication and website • Ability to set up a corporate VIP area 20’x20’ • The ability to host and promote the designated brand at the event venues • Access to the event VIP area for 20 persons each day. • The designation of a prize category with the name of the sponsor • The ability to place 4 pieces of signage at the event venue.

Sponsorship Opportunities • Sponsorship benefits cont’d • Invitation for 6 persons for 3 social events • The welcome reception • The captains party • The closing ceremony • The provision of an area covering no more that 6 X4’ where relevant companies can show case their brand • The provision of branded items and relevant printed material for distribution in welcome kits. • Other elements can be made available based on sponsor requirements

Sponsorship Opportunities • Bronze sponsorship packages are available for the following categories; • Associate sponsor • The Value for each official title designation is $10,000 cash • The sponsors will receive the following benefits; • Brand association in all event communication and website • Access to the event VIP area for 10 persons each day. • The ability to place 2 pieces of signage at the event venues. • Invitation for 2 persons for 3 social events • The welcome reception • The captains party • The closing ceremony • The provision of branded items and relevant printed material for distribution in welcome kits. • Other elements can be made available based on level of sponsorship and sponsor requirements

Advertising & Promotion • Press • Regular press releases to international sailing and lifestyle publications and local press. • Full page promoting participation in the event – Sunday Jan 12th. 14th 16th 19th, 21st • Use of both printed and Web • Message – Major sailing event, History, Public participation, fun and excitement • Radio • Daily 30 sec radio spots from January 6th – 21st – CBC/Star com networks • Live radio coverage on the day of the event • 2 x 30 Min radio shows to promote the event • Internet • Web site – sponsors logo and link • Social Media -Facebook and Twitter • Personal selling • Brochures and flyers directly to clubs, associations and institutions • POS material – Banners, Posters, other signage
