Summarizing What We’ve Learned • Dividing by 2 is easy • When we see a division question with a divisor of 4 or 8, we can simply divide by 2 multiple times • BUT WHAT IF THE DIVISOR IS A 6?Almost the same thing, but watch closely. First, divide by 2, and then divide that answer by 3. OR First, divide by 3, and then divide that answer by 2.
Example 18 ÷ 6 = ___ It’s an easy question, right? 18 ÷ 2 = 9 9 ÷ 3 = 3 Therefore, 18 ÷ 6 = 3. Was that easy?
Need to See it Again? You can ask the teacher for Base Ten Blocks (the 1cm3 blocks). Borrow 18 blocks. Solve 18 ÷ 6 by first dividing by 2, and then by dividing that answer by 3. If you feel confident that you understand… Can you answer this?84 ÷ 6 = _?_
