  1. By Brooks Burns The Murder Case

  2. The Case • Juan Gonzalez was murdered on a street corner in Los Angeles on his way home after a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game. • Juan was jumped by rival gang members of the prominent “West Side” gang led by the most wanted gang member in LA, Pablo Sanchez, who’s only fourteen years old but suspected of several murder cases. • West side has two infamous wingman of Sanchez, known as Pepe and Javier.

  3. Sanchez Vs. Gonzalez Pablo Sanchez Juan Gonzalez

  4. Finding the guilty person • In order to find out how many members of the West Side gang were involved in the murder, DNA profiling must be used. • Detective Jacoby Cooper is on the case and firt decides to get samples of the crime scene • To do this Cooper says he needed to do a RFLP analysis to break down the DNA by restriction enzymes and the resulting lengths are separated by Gel electrophoresis. • The restriction enzyme technique is used to get the correct DNA manipulation. • Then is aided by Gel electrophoresis to separate the nucleic acids on basis to find the person with the exact match to see if Pablo, Pepe, or Javier committed the murder.

  5. Detective Cooper

  6. Cooper says the next step is to submit these samples into machines for DNA sequencing. • The machines will carry out the sequence reactions to get the right sequences of the nucleotides. • A labeled probe is used to help tag a specific nucleotide out of the sequence in order to help Cooper look at one more closely.

  7. After the restriction enzyme is broken down the Southern Blotting technique is used by Detective Cooper. • This also helps show the presence of nucleotide sequences in the DNA. • Once Cooper gets this he can use a PCR analysis to find the correct fingerprints involved in killing Juan Gonzalez.

  8. Cooper’s DNA profiling showed that Juan was killed by just two of the West Side members • The PCR technique indentified the two murderers were Javier and Pablo Sanchez with fingerprints on Juan's body by mugging and puching him repeatedly. • They then fled the scene and left poor Juan Gonzalez dead overnight in an isolated street corner.

  9. Pepe Celebrating • In conclusion, Pablo and Javier were given life sentences while Senor Pepe was free!!
