Austrian Activitieson Nanomaterials Conference on Nano-Safety 22-24 April 2009 Ljubljana, SloveniaRenate Paumann
Current Austrian Nano-activities (1) • Fostering Cooperation and Exchange of Information between all Austrian Stakeholders (“Nano-Plattform”) - Regular Meetings with Ministries, Consumer and Environment NGOs, Scientists, Companies, Chamber of Commerce, Environment and Food Safety Agency… • Linking national activities to activities in - other countries (e.g. Authorities-Dialog with Switzerland/Germany/ Liechtenstein/Austria; Austrian-Slovenian Twinning-project on Chemicals, etc.) - EU (e.g. adaptation of legislation, research programmes….) - International (e.g. OECD test guideline programme, SAICM)
Current Austrian Nano-activities (2) • Increasing Research • Austrian “Nano-Initiative”:multi-annual funding programme for Nanoscale Sciences and Nanotechnologies in Austria. Under auspices of Ministry of Innovation and Technology (www.nanoinitiative.at) • Austrian Nano-Trust Project: Project to continually survey, analyse and summarise the state of knowledge regarding potential health and environmental risks (www.nanotrust.at) • EU-FP projects: DIPNA, NANOCAP, NanoBio Pharmaceuticals, Polysoa…. • Other Research-Projects: Nano-Rate, Euro-Nano-Tox….. • EU-SKEP-ERA-Netfor linking national research activites of EU Member States.Current call on “Impacts of converging technologies for environmental regulation” (www.skep-era.net) • Conference on “Environmental Effectsof nanoparticles and Nanomaterials” 6-9th Sept. 2009, Vienna (http://nano2009.univie.ac.at)
Current Austrian Nano-activities (3) 4. Communication and information of public • “Risk Dialogs”in co-operation with Austrian radio and television (2007) www.risikodialog.at / nanotechnologie • Public Available database of Research Projects in Field of Nano-Safety http://nanotrust.ac.at/aigaion/index.php/search/keywords • “Nano-Dossiers” = leaflets published on web on specific Nano-issuese.g Nano in consumer products, etc. www.nanotrust.ac.at/nano.ita.en/dossiers.html • Other Information such as broschures(e.g. on Nano in consumer products), etc.
Austrian Nano-Action-Plan • Included in work programme of current Austrian Government • Austrian Nano Action Plan aimson fostering cooperation between Austrian Stakeholders; wants tostrenghten synergies between different activities • Wants to illustrate current situation of Nano in Austria • Will give recommendations for further Austrian action in the fields of - environment - health including workers protection - industry • research • To be finalized by autumn 2009 Aim: Use benefits of Nanotechnology / identify and manage potential risks
