Research Pane • Right click option to look things up • Integrated Dictionary with definitions • Synonyms presented on the context menu • Bi-Lingual dictionaries • Automatically translate a word to French or Spanish • Integration to web based translation services • Automatically search across multiple services such as Encarta encyclopaedia, enhanced dictionaries, MapPoint services etc • Extensible with other information services as they become available
Digital Ink Support • For Tablet PCs • All Office Apps now support Pen Computing • Annotate any document freehand in your handwriting • Read annotations on a non-tablet PC.
For the Administrator…. • All file formats are backward compatible • Except advanced XML/Smartdocs features • New Policy templates to manage settings centrally • Install from (compressed) image of CD • Installation files are copied locally by default • Patches can be deployed as patches without users needing access to the source files • Deployment and Maintenance wizards • Add, remove and configure features centrally * • Full integration with SMS * Advanced deployment features are not available with retail versions

Outlook 2003 • Not new but greatly improved! • New Reading Pane and “Newspaper style” layout • Cached Exchange mode allows you to carry on working when server is down • Automatically switches on and off-line as needed • Network traffic reduced by around 40% • New grouping of mails by thread, sender or date makes finding things much easier • Side by Side Calendars • Improved Junkmail filter examines content, addressing info, time sent etc to identify SPAM. • Automatic blocking of “Web Beacons” • Also available with Exchange 2003 CALs
Information Rights Management • Protect your documents • What happens to your document after you send it? • Control who can read, copy, print, forward etc • Timed expiration of documents • Prevent leaking of confidential information • Documents and emails are encrypted • Requires Windows Server 2003 IRM service or a free service is currently provided by Microsoft using .Net Passports. • Client available for non-Office2003 users as free download
