  3. What does “Not Using” mean? • The generic definition- “When a strategy is called for, but is not used.” • “Not Using” does not mean that it was not observed. 9/2013

  4. What does “Not Using” mean? Scenario: A principal walks into a class and sees a student standing by his chair while the other students are sitting in their chairs. The principal asks the teacher why is one student allowed to stand. 9/2013

  5. What does “Not Using” mean? Teacher’s response: • “Oh, this student has an IEP that states he can stand when necessary.” This is a completely valid answer. • “What student ?”-Not Using 9/2013

  14. What does “Applying” mean? • The generic definition- “Strategy is used and monitored to see if it has the desired effect with the majority of students.” • This is the “tipping point”. Applying is when a teacher is successful with the strategy AND can monitor students. 9/2013

  15. What does “Applying” mean? • Driving Scenario: • A student can drive the car and have friends with them. They can also change the radio station. 9/2013
