Making the Decision to Enroll • Become familiar with the requirements for proposed major at the destination campus • www.assist.org • www.uctransfer.org • Department websites • Online catalogs • Contact with department advisers • Be aware of higher level writing/math requirements • Campus visits and open houses
Making the Decision to Enroll • Conditions of Admission • Completion of all coursework with appropriate grades • Application Update: February deadline • Notify campus of any change in course selection • Accurate reporting of transcript(s) • Financial Aid • UC priority FASFA deadline: March 2 • Some campuses are moving to unofficial financial aid award letters being available online only • All award letters will be made available to students prior to the SIR deadline • Statement of Intent to Register: June 1 deadline for transfer students
After SIR: Important Reminders • Submit Statement of Legal Residence • Complete online by deadline ensure that registration fees are assessed properly. • Undocumented students are considered for AB 540 through this process. • Establish E-mail communications • Set up a campus e-mail account • Check e-mail often! • Respond to all requests sent from the campus • Request IGETC Certification from community college, if applicable • Send official transcripts: July 15 deadline
After SIR: Important Reminders • Student health services • Immunization documents, insurance requirements • Housing decisions • Be aware of university housing deadlines. • College and department advising materials • Read thoroughly! • Prepare academic plan. • Contact academic adviser early with questions. • Sign up for orientation.
Orientation • Attend all orientations, including transfer-specific programs • Registration for fall quarter/semester courses • Academic advising • Bring unofficial copies of transcript(s) • Bring test scores and out-of-state coursework syllabus, if applicable • Students should contact Orientation office if they are unable to attend a session • Placement Exams • Foreign Language, Math, Chemistry • Parent and Family programs

Issues UC Transfer Students Face Academic Issues: • Pace of quarter system • Time management skills • Work less than 20 hours per week • Ask for help early in the quarter • Limit outside activities (work, clubs, sports, etc.) • Research focus • Theory-based education = learning new research methods • Transferring previous work and GPA • Surprise/frustration when certain courses do not transfer as expected • GPA from CCC will not be calculated into the student’s UC GPA • More pressure on the student to do well in the first term
