Past Recipients of Historical Welded Structure Award USS Nautilus (SSN 571) • Keel laid by President Harry S. Truman - Electric Boat Shipyard, Groton, Connecticut June 14, 1952. • September 30, 1954, NAUTILUS is first commissioned nuclear powered ship in the U.S. Navy. • Designated a Historical Welded Structure August 11, 2001 in Groton, Connecticut.
