Blackboard Online Learning Analysis: Learner Goal • The primary goal of this instruction is to enable student learners to more effectively learn the Blackboard online learning environment through a series of self-paced learning modules.
Blackboard Online Learning Analysis: Needs Assessment In order to meet the Learner goal, learners will need to do the following: • Log-in to the Blackboard portal. • Navigate through the various areas of the Blackboard portal. • Use the email functions in the Blackboard portal. • Participate in an online discussion in the Blackboard portal. • Use the digital dropbox to send an assignment in the Blackboard portal.
Blackboard Online Learning Analysis: Learner Analysis Characteristics: • students who have never taken online courses in the Blackboard CMS • students are seeking a refresher in the Blackboard interface. • age from 17-60+ years of age. • working adults with full-time careers. • highly computer-literate, or know very little of the basics of computer use, including word processing and file management.
Blackboard Online Learning Analysis: Context Analysis Existing materials and resources • 1 to 1-1/2 hour workshop presented at beginning of semester. One-page outline with set of practice exercises. • Web page document: logging in to Blackboard, and other basics http://www.arapahoe.edu/online/orientation.html. Informational only-no practice exercises. • Self-assessment for readiness http://www.arapahoe.edu/online/selfassessmt.html.
Blackboard Online Learning Learning Objectives: Goal: The learner can log-in to the Blackboard portal. Objective: • The learner will successfully log-in to Blackboard.
Blackboard Online Learning Learning Objectives: Goal: The learner can use the digital dropbox to send an assignment. Objective: The learner will send a completed scavenger hunt to the instructor via the digital dropbox.
Blackboard Online Learning Blackboard Online Class Scavenger Hunt (partial display—Total 9 exercises) Directions: Go to the ACC Blackboard website http://arapahoe.blackboard.com. After logging in, briefly respond to the following questions. When completed, use the digital dropbox to send a copy of this file directly to the Online Learning Manager. Also email a copy of this document to all of your Course Instructors. • Identify the opening message to all users upon logging in to Blackboard. • Locate the course syllabus. Identify the objectives of the class listed in the syllabus and write those objectives here. Hint: copy and paste the information. • Etc.
Blackboard Online Learning Development http://arapahoe.blackboard.com • Series of 5 Online Learning Modules developed with PowerPoint, Camtasia, Adobe Audition; presented as Flash movies within html files. • Downloadable Manual which can be used separately or in conjunction with the modules. • The Blackboard Online Learning course: all students will be enrolled in to access these training materials. • Online Survey within Blackboard for the Evaluation.
Blackboard Online Learning Implementation • I will be implementing this instruction for Summer 2006 semester. • If I needed to pass this on to another instructor, it would need to be someone who has a strong working knowledge of Blackboard and related softwares.
Blackboard Online Learning Evaluation: Summative • Bottom line: to know if my learners have met the objectives of this training and if the instructional strategies have led to sound instruction. • Kirkpatrick Model: Level 1 and Level 2 with the following Activities:Survey to evaluate attitudes about the instructional modules. http://arapahoe.blackboard.comGather results of Scavenger Hunt.
Blackboard Online Learning Revision • Based on results of my Evaluation, I will then look at revising any or all areas of my instruction. • This revision phase has actually taken place throughout the entire Project, as questions have occurred.
