AIA-AGC Joint CommitteeMission Chairman: Joe Jarboe, Clark Construction, Bethesda, MD • Provide working level liaison with AIA and provide a forum for the exchange of information on matters of mutual concern • To represent and advance current positions, views and goals of the AGC Building Division • Act on matters of direct interest to architects and building contractors as they relate to their participation in the construction process • Promote and increase joint activities between the national organizations and their local chapters and components in order to enhance industry professionalism consistent with each association’s policies and procedures • Make recommendations on matters requiring attention at the highest organizational level of each association

  11. AIA-AGC Joint CommitteeInitiatives • Meet twice each year at Building Division meetings • January 2008 action items include: • Exchange economic information • Joint advocacy efforts • Collaborate on workforce/recruiting • Information sharing on respective websites

Construction Marketing CommitteeMission Chairman: Terry Wooding Petra Construction Corp., North Haven, CT • Advise AGC members of new market opportunities and marketing possibilities being formulated within the AGC • Follow and report on trends in the construction market • Advise members on the techniques and tools of marketing • Encourage the establishment of local chapter marketing training programs

Construction Marketing CommitteeInitiatives • Establish a “Marketing Knowledge Base” on www.agc.org • Launch a “Quick Marketing Tips” monthly email to the AGC Construction Marketing E-forum • Potentially audio tape construction marketing sessions at the AGC Annual Convention and make the recording available to AGC members • Investigate a designation related to professional marketers of construction services in conjunction with the current certification program with the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) • Develop a marketing plan and possible pilot program to promote the AGC brand at local levels

Contract Documents CommitteeMission Chairman: Eric Wilson, Hensel Phelps Construction Corp., Greeley, CO Vice Chairman: Rick Lowe, Duane Morris, Philadelphia, PA • To be recognized as the leader in providing and continually improving balanced contract documents for the construction industry by: being aware of the needs and concerns of all AGC members and chapters; advocating equitable risk allocation between Owners, Architects and Engineers, and Contractors; creating and endorsing a comprehensive family of documents and educating all parties in their use; providing critical information to the industry on contract documents issues; and reinforcing AGC's commitment to Skill, Responsibility and Integrity through contracts. • ConsensusDOCS Task Force

Contract Documents CommitteeInitiatives • The Committee and the ConsensusDOCS participating organizations are developing new ConsensusDOCS contracts for 2008.  These include a BIM Addendum, Green Building Addendum, a Scheduling and Time Extension Addendum, and a new Federal Subcontracting contract similar to the AGC 601. • AGC has continued to work with chapters on educating their members regarding A201. National staff has visited 15 chapters since the A201 decision and supported chapters in their education efforts. AGC developed commentary on the A201, which was made available to AGC members in the members-only section of the AGC website.

Industry Liaison CommitteeMission Chairman: Chuck Greco, Linbeck Group LLP, Houston, TX • Establish, through standing subcommittees, regular liaison meetings between building contractors and appropriate representatives of private building owners, such as National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Building Owners and Managers Association International, International Council of Shopping Centers, Urban Land Institute, National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives, International Facilities Management Association, American Hospital Association, and the Business Roundtable • Maintain continuing discussions with appropriate private officials on all aspects of their respective building programs, including funding, delivery systems, procurement procedures, contract administration procedures, and all other matters affecting constructors’ interests in sound and effective private building construction programs

Industry Liaison CommitteeMission • Develop AGC positions, policies, guidelines, recommendations or other statements on contract forms, rules, court decisions and matters developed by public or private governance sources as deemed appropriate by the committee to advance AGC member interests in sound and effective private building construction programs • To jointly produce with representatives of private building owners recommendations or other statements or publications on contract forms, legislation, regulations, rules, court decisions, or other sources of public or private governance as deemed appropriate by the committee for sound and effective private building construction programs • To coordinate AGC private sector outreach, marketing and education efforts with appropriate committees and task forces.

Industry Liaison CommitteeInitiatives • AGC and the National Association of State Facilities Administrators (NASFA) recently completed the 80-page publication titled: Best Practices for the Use of Best Value Selections • A third ACI-ACC-AGC Airport Project Delivery Systems Summit is scheduled for August 6-7, 2008. • The Committee continues to strengthen its relationship with the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) and seeks to identify issues that AGC and CURT can collaborate on in the future. • Chapter Subcommittee continues an open dialogue with AGC Chapters • AGC-ASA-ASC Task Group will meet in Rosemont, IL from May 16-17, 2008

Project Delivery CommitteeMission Chairman: Mike Kenig, Holder Construction Group LLC, Atlanta, GA • Define services performed by AGC contractor members • Develop guidelines pertaining to those services for the assistance of AGC members • Promote sound practices with respect to those services with other industry groups • Develop guidelines to assure the maintenance of skill, integrity and responsibility in providing those services • Review legislation and regulations affecting those services.

Project Delivery CommitteeInitiatives • Worked with the National Association of State Facilities Administrators (NASFA) and the General Building Contractors of New York State to produce a day and a half seminar on managing a successful CM-at-Risk project. • Working on a draft policy/position statement on Qualifications Based Selection (QBS). • Put together a presentation on March 10 on CM at-Risk for horizontal projects. • Continue to develop resources for the Project Delivery webpage on www.agc.org • Hold monthly conference calls

BIMForum Chairman: John Tocci Sr., Tocci Building Corp., Woburn, MA • The BIMForum is a conglomeration of leaders throughout the AEC industry who have joined forces to facilitate and accelerate the adoption of BIM. The BIMForum works with all sectors of the industry to jointly develop best practices for VDC through online forums, deliverables, and practical industry conferences. • Mission: “To facilitate and accelerate the adoption of BIM in the AEC industry.”

  23. BIMForum • More than 500 AGC members and non-members (contractors, architects, owners, academics, attorneys, vendors, etc.) belong to the forum (no fee). • Subforums: Academic, Designers, Builders, Legal, Software, Users, and Emerging Leaders • www.bimforum.org

  24. BIMForum Initiatives • The BIMForum (www.BIMForum.org) met during the June 2007 and January 2008 Building Division meetings. Over two days, the BIMForum held several presentations and numerous subforums met in separate work sessions. • The Legal Subforum presented a draft “BIM rider” to the PIAC Contract Documents Work Group in January 2008. This document will eventually be incorporated into ConsensusDOCS. • The Emerging Leaders Subforum is developing a presentation that can be given at colleges and universities which will showcase BIM’s use. The presentation is intended to highlight the technological side of modern construction in the hopes of generating a renewed interest in construction careers amongst the next generation of workers.   • The Academic Subforum is putting together a toolkit to aid colleges and universities in creating a BIM curriculum at their institutions.

PIAC Chairman: Rick Poppe, The Weitz Co., Denver, CO • The Private Industry Advisory Council changed its name to the Private/Public Industry Advisory Council (PIAC) in 2007 to reflect the inclusion of public owners. • The PIAC was created in October 1993 to provide a direct line of communication between AGC and selected representatives of private industry responsible for the design and construction of facilities.

  26. PIAC • The PIAC is composed of representatives from major U.S. commercial and manufacturing firms, public owners, and an AGC Steering Committee. AGC members who serve as At-Large members of the PIAC are chosen from the Industry Liaison Committee. • The PIAC meets annually in January and June in conjunction with the AGC Building Division meeting. The meetings include presentations on current issues, as well as time for roundtable discussion.

  27. PIAC Initiatives • Met during the June 2007 and January 2008 Building Division meetings • Held a PIAC 15th Anniversary Dinner in January 2008, which recognized the PIAC’s past and present chairs and two retiring PIAC owner members.

C3T Task Force Chairman: Dave Hanson, Walbridge Aldinger Co., Tampa, FL • To serve as a forum exclusively for AGC contractor members that is focused on collaboration, integrated solutions, and BIM trends and issues. • To address the pertinent issues in effectively accommodating current trends in enhanced collaboration and integrated solutions resulting from changing expectations, market realities, owner preferences and technology changes and dependence. • C3T = Collaboration Techniques, Tools and Technology
