  11. Chapter Review • New organization of ATM chapters: • Chapter 1, Introduction • Chapter 2, Training • Chapter 3, Evaluations • Chapter 4, Crewmember Tasks • Chapter 5, Maintenance Test Pilot Tasks • Chapter 6, Crew Coordination

  12. Chapter 1 Changes • Definition of terms such as FAC, & RL are removed and placed into Chapter 2. • Applicability of TC 1-218 is modified to exclude the RC-12s and include C-12J.

  13. Chapter 2 Changes • Chapter 2 includes all levels of training (qualification, refresher, mission & continuation) consolidated. • Refresher simulator training is now mandatory as follows: • 12 to 18 months after completing FWMEQC. • After a 12 month break in utilization. • Every 2 years for aviators currently in FW assignments.

  14. Chapter 2 Changes • ATM now describes currency, groups, and series qualification details. • Commanders are required to designate tasks required for a currency PFE. • C-12J Qualification described.

  15. Chapter 2Changes • Series qualification training requirements are explicitly defined based on previous qualifications.

  16. Chapter 2 Changes • No FAC 3 authorized for FW crewmembers. • Aviator base task list renumbered. • Column headings changed to “D, I, N” (Day, Instrument, Night). New column added to identify evaluation tasks. • Touch and go landings (iteration/evaluation) required only for IPs/SPs.

  17. Chapter 2 Changes • Task list adds new 1000 series tasks for: • Task 1212 Perform EGPWS/TAWS* • Task 1260 Operate weather avoidance system • Task 1262 Perform circling approach • Task 1264 Perform GPS approach** • Task 1265 Perform TCAS operations* • Task 1352 Perform rejected takeoff * If installed. ** If an approach TSO’d system is installed and units perform GPS IAPs.

  18. Chapter 2 Changes • Removes tasks for: • Task 1010 Straight & level flight • Task 1017 High altitude flight • Task 1041 Instrument climb, descent, and straight and level flight • Task 1042 Perform instrument turns • Task 1054 Perform navigation with ONS • Number of tasks for Standardization and Instrument evaluations has increased.

  19. Chapter 2 Changes • All 2000 series tasks eliminated: • Task 2015 Weather RADAR converted to Base Task 1260 • Task 2028 Perform touch and go landing (reverts to base task 1144).

  20. Chapter 2 Changes • Units are still authorized to create 3,000 series additional tasks. • There is no longer a requirement for DES to review/approve 3,000 series task created by units. • The tasks must follow the same Task, Condition, Standard, and Description format in the ATM.

  21. Chapter 2 Changes • Task 1023, Vmc demo is a simulator-only maneuver with no annual iteration, evaluation, or RL progression requirement. • Maintenance Pilot (MP) tasks are renumbered as 4000 series. • Number of MP tasks for APART reduced (same as previous DES/DOTDS policy letter).

  22. Chapter 3 Changes • Chapter 3 now covers evaluations. • Initial validation for all evaluators at new duty station must be conducted in the aircraft. • Expanded performance criteria is now defined based on duty performed (PI, PC, UT, MP, IP, SP, & IE).

  23. Chapter 3 Changes • Limitations of non-IP FW IEs clarified (cruise conditions only for SEF/unusual attitude recovery). • Compatible flight simulators may now be used for evaluations (except post-mishap evals). Contact DES for list of compatible simulators. • Oral evaluation topics have been vastly revised/updated.

  24. Chapter 4 Changes • Chapter 4 now lists tasks, conditions, and standards for all 1000 series tasks. • “Common” standards are defined that apply to all tasks: • Common Standards for Taxi Operations • Comply with taxi clearances. • Follow taxi lines with minimum deviation. • Maintain a safe taxi speed. • Correctly use flight controls as required by wind conditions.

  25. Chapter 4 Changes • Common Standards for Flight Operations • Maintain heading ± 10 degrees. • Maintain altitude ± 100 feet. • Maintain airspeed ± 10 KIAS. • Maintain rate of climb or descent ± 100 FPM. • Maintain the aircraft in trim ± 1/4 ball width. • Additional standards other than listed will be addressed in the particular task. • Common references are not reiterated under individual tasks.

  26. Chapter 4 Changes • Crew coordination removed from chapter 4 and is now contained in chapter 6. • A generic crew briefing checklist is added to Task 1000 Crew Mission Briefing • Same TOLD card suffices for consecutive T/O & landings if temp, PA, & weight do not increase by 10 C, 1000’PA or 500 lbs GW.

  27. Chapter 4 Changes • Task 1104 Normal Takeoff, cockpit management is modified so that the pilot not flying (P) operates gear & flaps. • Operation of the gear & flaps by the P represents the next level of crew coordination development in Army FW aircraft. It is the standard for Part 121 & 135 operators and larger Army aircraft (Gulfstream, DHC-7 Citation, Metroliner, Sherpa)

  28. Chapter 4 Changes • Task 1125 Slow Flight • New target speed Vref ± 5 KIAS • One configuration, fully “dirty” • Minimum airspeed Vmc • Minimum altitude 4,000’ AGL

  29. Chapter 4 Changes • Task 1145 Normal Landing • Maximum bank angle in traffic pattern now normally 30° • P manages gear/flaps at Pilot Flying’ (P*) directions. • Task 1245 Unusual Attitude Recovery • Nose high procedure allows for initial bank increase to maintain positive G-load.

  30. Chapter 4 Changes • Task 1303 Approaches to Stall • 3 Configurations: clean, gear down & APPROACH flaps, & gear down with FULL flaps. • Recover at first physical indication (horn, buffet, loss of control effectiveness.)

  31. Chapter 4 Changes • Task 1310 Engine Failure During Cruise • P identifies failed engine. • P feathers propeller after P* verification. • P operates gear/flaps.

  32. Chapter 4 Changes • Task 1320 Single-Engine Go-Around & Task 1325 Engine Failure During T/O • P sets maximum power. • P operates gear/flaps. • Task 1340 Emergency Landing Gear Extension • No practice emergency extensions in IMC conditions.

  33. Chapter 6 Changes • Cockpit management/crew duties have been appreciably modified. • P* (pilot flying) primary duty is flying the airplane and controlling the AP/flight director. • P (pilot not flying) is responsible for cross-monitoring all P* duties and: • radio communications • NAVAID/communication frequency selection • transponder operation

  34. Chapter 6 Changes • (P responsibilities continued:) • copying clearances, ATIS etc. • reading and completing the checklist • adjusting pages, switches, and systems • operating FMS, INS, GPS • changing aircraft configuration: • power lever management (from V1 to the after T/O check) • propeller settings • flap selection • operating the gear • operating the weather RADAR

  35. Chapter 6 Changes • P responsibilities continued: • setting the altitude pre-selector & cabin controller • noting T/O time • calculating and monitoring time for holding/approaches • watching for runway at DH/MDA • assisting the P* with missed approach procedure • As a general rule, if the P can do it, the P should do it, particularly during the departure and arrival phases.

  36. Chapter 6 Changes • Management of the P*s flight director • The P may make changes to the altitude selector without P* direction. • The P shall not make other changes to the P*s flight director system without P* direction. • The P* should direct the P to adjust the flight director system, but the P* retains the prerogative to control the flight director.

  37. Chapter 6 Changes • The sterile cockpit concept is now part of the ATM crew coordination chapter. • The two challenge rule is incorporated into the ATM crew coordination chapter. • Standard crew terminology list is expanded. • Recommended callout tables for different phases of flight are included (see slides that follow).

  38. Chapter 6 Callouts Bold type identifies the crewmember who should initiate the call. Takeoff Callouts

  39. Chapter 6 Callouts Climb/Cruise/Descent Callouts • If passing the 1,000’ prior point and ATC communications is preventing the callout, either crewmember may indicate the 1,000 prior call by raising the index finger in the view of the other crewmember.

  40. Chapter 6 Callouts Callouts that are required during all phases of flight.

  41. Chapter 6 Callouts Instrument approach callouts (excludes GCAs).

  42. Chapter 6 Callouts Missed approach callouts.

  43. Chapter 6 Callouts • Callouts made during transition from instrument to visual conditions on approach.

  44. Chapter 6 Callouts Callouts required when deviations are recognized during IAPs.

  45. Chapter 6 Callouts • Touch and Go callouts.

  46. Chapter 6 Callouts • Engine failure callouts.

  47. Maintenance TestPilot Changes The remaining slides are only required to be reviewed by SPs, IPs, and MPs (also formerly designated MEs).

  48. Maintenance TestPilot Changes • This presentation satisfies the training requirement for new ATM MP procedures. • After completion of this training, make an entry in the IATF (7122) and IFRF (on next 759 closeout) for all MPs. • Use entry similar to: “TC 1-218 dated April 03MP training completed”. • No flight review is required for maintenance tasks in the new ATM.

  49. Maintenance TestPilot Changes • The new ATM removed reference to the maintenance test flight evaluator (ME). • ME replaced by maintenance designated SP/IP. • MPs may only be trained by an SP or IP who is maintenance designated on their DA FORM 7120 (as an MP or previously ME). • Annual MP APART requirement remains.

  50. Maintenance TestPilot Changes • Former FW MEs who are not also SPs or IPs revert to MP status only. • IP qualification is still highly desirable for FW MPs. • There is no longer a requirement for DES to validate newly designated MPs or maintenance designated IPs.
