Makerspace Staff Adam Rogers Brendan O’Connell + Many Ask Us Staff Members
Some Stats through Spring 2014 • Over 2200 3D prints so far • 62% on uPrint, 38% on MakerBot • ~500 unique users • 54% said they would not have been able to 3D print otherwise • ~69% of users are engineers
Space as a Service • Patrons bring design • We operate machines • We are much cheaper • Student Staff as experts
Challenges • Machine Failure • Makerbot Support • Taking Payment
Lessons we’ve learned at Hunt • Staffing for consistency • Changing Hours • Procedures are important
From Service to Instruction • Lots of awareness and interest but lack of skills • Difficulties of instruction in small space • Need for easy (cheap) failure
Makerspace at D. H. Hill Library Space for workshops 3D Printers, soldering irons, and other tools Visitor space
