What is the computer needed for? • If the computer school related: • Favor the type most available on campus. • Check if one is needed for your major. (I.e. journalism major may want an IBM or IBM-compatible)

How much money can I spend? • Plan your buying for the future: • This buy won’t probably be you last. • Questions to ask yourself… • How much would I be willing to spend today? • How much am I prepared to spend in another year or two?
What kind of software will best serve my needs? • According to computer experts: determine what software you need before you buy the hardware. • Reason: not all software runs in the hardware you need. • Make sure the software will get sufficient use two years down the road.
