  2. What is the GTCE? • Set up in 2001 • Independent professional body for teaching • 3 main roles • Register • Regulate • Advise • Additionally the GTCE awards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  3. Who needs to register with the GTCE? • Two types of registration • Full • Qualified Teachers (564045) • Provisional • Trainee Teachers (49363) • Overseas Trained Teachers (4590) • Instructors (8111) (Figures from Jan 2010)

Information on Science Teachers • The GTC does not specifically segregate teachers with science specialism's however information is available on; • First/initial degree subjects • Teacher training subject specialism’s (With over two thousand of degree subject classifications of which over 300 are science related and over 60 science related science related teaching subject specialism’s the following slides do carry a health warning)
