  2. CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC ENGLISH A • Improved performance • Summary writing still remains a challenge • Performance on the Understanding profile significantly better than on Expression 57%achieved Grades I – III www.cxc.org

  3. CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC ENGLISH B • Second examination on new texts • 5 % improvement in candidates earning acceptable Grades I – III (68% to 73%) • Improvement most evident on Poetry profile and Prose fiction www.cxc.org

  4. CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC SPANISH • Consistent performance over the last three years. • On both foreign languages the number of candidates earning acceptable grades improved by 3 % www.cxc.org

CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC MATHEMATICS • A few candidates scored full marks on each paper • 35% earned Grades I – III. • Much evidence of unfamiliarity with basic lower secondary level concepts. For example, 13 000 candidates could not measure and state the length of a given line nor determine the measure of an angle. • Completion of programmes such as CCSLC would provide solid foundation www.cxc.org

CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS • Second examination in this subject at CSEC • Candidate population increased by 69% (Approximately 3000) • A platform for success at CAPE Pure Mathematics • Approximately 70% at Grades I – III with and 27% at Grade I • Expect this type of performance since it includes outstanding students enrolled in CSEC Mathematics www.cxc.org

  7. CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC CARIBBEAN HISTORY • Candidate population has not grown • Performance remained consistent with 71% earning Grades I – III. www.cxc.org

  9. CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY • Significant improvement in candidates earning Grades I - II. • Over 80% at Grades I – III • Candidates experienced difficulty with concepts related to advanced data types www.cxc.org

CSEC Trends and Highlights – Region CSEC ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT PREPARATION MANAGEMENT • On Paper 01, the concepts which proved most challenging include keyboard shortcuts, maintaining an electronic filing system and manipulating the system to move and delete text. • On Paper 02, the production paper, challenges related primarily to the interpretation of manuscript signs and understanding the output for the completed tasks before attempting the question. www.cxc.org
