  1. Washington, D.C.Monday, April 24, 2017 – Wednesday, April 26, 2017 Emergency # Holbrook Field Trips 1-919-363-6276

  2. Arrive @ HWMS 5:15 AM • DO NOT bring luggage into building. Only carry-on items only. Recommend luggage tag. • Drop luggage off next to assigned bus. • Parent & student check-in by bus in the cafeteria. • Line up in cafeteria by bus assignment/number. • Keep book bag with you for storage at your seat. • Make sure you have your bag lunch for the trip, medicines, & personal items on the bus. • We will not be getting into the luggage compartment until we arrive at the hotel that evening. (8:00 pm) • We will leave Winkler by 6:00 am

  3. Dress for the tour should be comfortable but neat. Please wear comfortable shoes. A suggested packing list is on the next slide. It is very important that all students stay with their assigned chaperones when touring and sit in the same bus seat when traveling from tour site to site.

  4. Suggested Packing List Check the weather for the location to which you are traveling. A good website for weather information is www.weather.com. One pair of comfortable walking shoes (you will most likely wear these when you depart). One outfit for each day (jeans, slacks, shorts, tops, sweaters pack for the season). School dress code applies. One piece of rain gear – umbrella, rain jacket, rain poncho Pajamas Personal items (under garments, socks) Toiletries –toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant Grooming tools (brush, comb, toothbrush) Jacket during cool weather (night game in Camden Yards) This is truly all you will need. The clothing you put on in the morning is the same clothing you will be wearing all day.

  5. Sites to See We’ll visit the following sites over the course of the time we are in Washington

  6. Monday afternoon… • Guided tour of Arlington National Cemetery 1:00 Wreath-laying @ Tomb of Unknown Soldier 3:15 pm Four of our students will lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Students must remain quiet and respectful during this event. • Visit the Thomas Jefferson, Martin L. King, & FDR Memorials on the Mall 4:00 pm • Dinner @ Pentagon City Mall Food Courts 6:00 pm Chipotle, McDonalds, Subway, Cajun Grill, Panera, Panda Express, Popeyes, Whichwich, Taco Bell, Great Wraps Grill, Villa Pizza, Maki of Japan, etc…

  7. Visit the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial 7:15 pm Check in to Hotel: National 4-H Center 888-974-6197

Tuesday, April 25 Hot Breakfast in 4-H Dining Room 6:00 am Board buses at 7:30 am • Guided Tour of U.S. Capitol 9:00 am • Smithsonian Museums Tour: National Archives, Natural History, American History, Air & Space 10:30-3:30. Lunch at museum (voucher). Air/Space – McDonalds, Boston Market, Donato’s Pizza. Other museums also have restaurants. • Depart for Baltimore, MD & Orioles MLB Game 5:00 • Orioles v Rays 7:00 $10 Dinner Voucher Included • Return to 4-H Conference Center 11:00 pm

Wednesday morning/afternoon • Hot Breakfast in 4-H Dining Room 7:00 am • Load Luggage & Board Buses at 8:30 am • Visit: Lincoln, Korean War, Vietnam War, WWII Memorials 9:00 am • Box Lunch from Harriet’s Restaurant 12:00 pm • Visit Air Force Memorial 1:00 pm • Depart from Washington, D.C. 2:00 pm

  10. Wednesday Evening… • Dinner — Fast food en route • Students will be given $5.00 to purchase food. • Arrive at Winkler Middle School 10:00 pm

  12. What is not included/suggested items • Bag lunch for Monday • Snacks • Money for souvenirs • Extra money at baseball game and/or extra food. • Camera • Rain poncho/small umbrella • Portable charger for cell phone

  13. Be Your Best! • HWMS Dress Code and Code of Conduct applies at all times. • Students should wear appropriate clothing for touring federal parks and walking outdoors, rain or shine. • Students should be mindful of other visitors in public places and be respectful & courteous to one another.

  14. Bus Guidelines • Stay seated • Head phones/ear buds must be used • Snacks from home ok • Only plastic bottles with caps • Keep it clean • NO GUM • DO NOT bring food or drinks from meal stops on bus • NO aerosols • NO loud or distracting noises

  15. Cell Phone & Electronics Policy • IPods ok for the long bus ride – not while off the bus at tour sites • Cell phones may be carried and can be used in an emergency. Please no texting while we are on tours and in public buildings. Be courteous of your roommates. • Please usediscretion in taking photos. Be respectful and use phones/camera in appropriate manner. • Chaperones will take phones/iPods if policy is abused, and will be returned at the end of the day when we return to the hotel.

  16. Behavior • Students should model their best behavior • Any infractions will be dealt with by the administration upon return to school • Severe discipline problems or any criminal activity will require the parents to come get his/her child immediately, at their own expense.

  17. Behavior • Students should be very careful about appropriate social media usage • Don’t put any inappropriate images on instagram, facebook, etc. • Don’t post any disrespectful comments on social media about the places/people we see on our tour

  18. Hotel Security • It will be late evening by the time we return to the hotel. • Students return to their assigned rooms and may not leave to visit any other room or part of the hotel. • A security guard will also be on duty. • The room doors will be “taped” in the P.M. by a teacher. You will be picked up by your chaperone in the A.M.

Pack 1 small suitcase& a small carry-on for the bus ride Bring • Sneakers and an extra pair in case of wet weather • Grey 2017 8th grade shirt (optional) • A small umbrella and rain jacket • School appropriate pants/jeans Don’t Bring • Flip flops • Baggy pants • Torn or ripped jeans • Large pocketbooks • You will be subject to search when entering Capitol & Smithsonian Museums • Gum

  20. Medication Authorization • If a parent chooses to have his child self-administer a prescription medication, a medication authorization must be completed by the parent & signed by both the parent and student. • All medications kept in the nurse’s office here at school will go to Washington with the homeroom teacher.

  21. Have a great time!! • Thank you parents for supporting this adventure in learning. • Be sure to thank the parent chaperones who are also coming along on this adventure! • We are proud to be taking this group of students to see our nation’s capital.
