The bridge construction had been slated to begin earlier this year, but got delayed. However, the National Highways Authority of India will commence the construction of the bridge in the upcoming fortnight. The bridge is located near the UP Gate on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. The bridge is a part of NH 24, which is also set to be widened by the NHAI. The highway widening and the bridge construction are estimated to begin the 1st week of September, as confirmed by NHAI officials in a recent meeting. National Highways Authority of India officials as well as some officials from the Uttar Pradesh irrigation department visited the location of the project to chart out the framework for the planning of the construction work. The current bridge has a length of 330 metres and will be undergoing an expansion, with an addition of 6 lanes on each side. The National Highways Authority of India has presented an initial general drawing of the upcoming structure to the Uttar Pradesh Government in Lucknow on 16th August, which is awaiting approval. The existing bridge is a four-laned structure, constructed by the National Highways Authority of India in 1977. The National Highways Authority of India project director, Mr Rajinder Pal Singh has stated that prior to the expansion of the existing bridge, it will be undergoing strengthening work. There will be a construction of 4 lanes that will run adjacent and parallel to the current structure. The Hindon canal is located at the beginning of the second section of National Highway 24, which is to be undergoing a widening project. The widening will be covering the distance between UP Gate to Dasna. The second section of NH 24 passes completely through Ghaziabad and the NHAI has targeted it for commissioning prior to the general elections scheduled to be held next year.
