St Helens ADHD Support Group meets Camelot Theme Park On Thursday 7th June 2012, 16 families from St Helens ADHD Support Group went to Camelot Theme Park thanks to Rotary Club Rainhill. The sun managed to hide behind the clouds all day, the rain lashed each and every one of us but the sense of community and support among the group was never stronger as families pulled together to take all the young people on all the rides, taking care of each other’s children, tantrums, umbrellas and packed lunches We would like to thank you so much for helping us and share our story with you.........
Families were able to enjoy the rides, the birds of prey, the interactive shows and the jousting.... “We would like to go on other activities like this” Just to say we had a fantastic day and to see him mixing and joining in with everyone was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and supportive.” “We learnt how to have fun as a family.”
Children were able to get together and make new friends...especially our teens who had their own carer “It taught my children how to wait and make friends.” “Because of the help that we had, my son was able to overcome some of his problems and socialise with other children.”
The group bonded to support each other so all the parents felt they had a break, with parents sharing the caring so all the parents could go on the rides too.... “ We learned how to deal with meltdowns and what triggers them” “I learned that my son can cope out in large groups when not too busy.”
For all of us it was a wonderful break but some comments just touched the heart............... “He hasn’t been out in 10 years, and today he went on a ride. We have learnt to have fun as a family and break away from the usually stresses of the day” “The group has become a main source of help and support for our family, not only emotionally, but socially we are learning a lot from the other parents within the group.”
